Show i anpinf SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 9. 1991 Community 6 news Library Books Utahs "Weekforthe Animals" lTtah is one of the first states in the nation to have its own special week for the animals. 9 November has been proclaimed by the state as Utahs Week for the Animals, a special celebration of the animals and the part they play in our lives. On February 24, Governor Leavitt signed a proclamation designating these dates as the time to give special attention to our pets. Those of us who love the animals know how much they give, how special they are. The week for animals will feature more than the usual amount of coverage of animals on TV, radio and in print. As much time as possible will be allowed for animal documentaries, wildlife, animal issues and adoptable change There will also be help with special bulletin board projects featuring animals for that week. A big feature of the week will be encouraging as many adoptions of homeless dogs and cats as possible. Spaying and neutering will also be promoted strongly during the w'eek. Here are some ways you can help make Utahs Week for the Animals a success: You can come help with the school projects You can help put up posters and hand out flyers. You can contact your local radio stations and newspapers to help publicize adoptable animals during the week. You can organize an event in your own community to make animals making personal ap- people aware of the week. The old saying that A dog is a pearances! While it is absolutely impossible to answer that totally in one column, there have been some answers introduced in the past. One in particular that has been given numerous times, is further enhanced by the statement made by a soil scientist, Hans Jenny, who first pointed out that there is often more life below and within the soil than there is above it, including homo sapiens. I suppose if there wras one answer alone which could be given as to why garden organically, it could be that. Being aware that there is much varied life within dies in place provides the food.
