Show I SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 9, 1994 Opinion 4 Dixie Speaks The elections will be over by the time this issue of the SUX is published. Halleluiah. This was my first election experience as an editor, and I can honestly say, I hated it. People in the area have said that this was an especially ugly Sheriff's election. I'd have to agree. But now, regardles of the outcome, the majority of the voters have spoken and it's time to move on. Can each side rise above the negativeness that has happened? I know that local law enforcement can. They are professionals and will do what they've been sworn to do to carry out their jobs. What about the general public? It's time now to support the winner, and put away the animosity the election has caused between friends and neighbors Let's reunite as a communitv, and move forward. Letters must be signed and include your full name, address and telephone number. Thank you for your interest. What is your opinion Truckers question city council Dear Kanab City Council and Mayor Adams: You could save time and money if you simply erect a sign at each entrance into Kanab that says, If you are bigger than a Toyota dont even think of stopping here. What do you plan to do about the farmers and ranchers after they load their trucks and then want to swing past their houses and get a bite to eat, they will be breaking the law? What are you going to do with the school busses after they are finished delivering their loads? They can not drive back to their yard. Or the trucks or motorhomes who would like to patronize the businesses in town they will have nowhere to park.Vehicles pulling boats or other trailers who would like to eat or spend the night in Kanab. Who is going to inform Dennis Judd that his tour buses can no longer park in front of his business? What are you going to do with the truck drivers who cannot come to the court house to pay a fine or get their CDLs. We agree that large vehicles should not be in subdivisions, the roads are simply not designed for them to travel on or to park. We also agree that large vehicles should be restricted for safety reasons like school zones or hospitals. If road damage is the real concern delivery trucks will do as much damage as will any other truck. I challenge you to compare all the roads in Kanab those with truck and large vehicle traffic and those without such traffic and I contend that you will find no difference. Lets put fact before theory. I think Chief Crosby has more important things to do than run around measuring and weighing questionable vehicles. hide.
