A d ad hoc committee was given the directive of finding quick funding to hire a badly-neede- d new Kanab City Policeman. The committee researched a variety of funding ideas, but chose the wheel fee as the quickest avenue of raising money. While no one questioned the need for another policeman, the idea of charging residents a wheel fee met with a resounding no. People felt that a wheel fee was unfair and inequitable. It is interesting to note that the 40 people in attendance unanimously supported the city charging an impact fee, as well as pursuing a 14$ sales tax to support the addition of one new officer. But while how to fund the new policeman was a question, there was no question what directive the residents gave the City Council. There was a clear mandate for action! The SUN and many local residents urge the Kanab City Council to make hiring a new officer top priority. A mayor-appointe- Letters to the Editor What is your opinion?
