The primary will be held on June 28. The Kane County Commission race got more crowded with the last minute addition of Daniel Thebeau and current Commissioner Glen Martin. Republicans Joe Judd and Glen Martin are runningfor Commission Seat A, and Richard Negus is running for the same seat on the Democratic ticket. For Commission Seat B, the By Dixie (who is running unopposed for his own position) said that nothing he can find in the law pro- hibits a person from holding an elected city and an elected county office concurrently. The only restriction would be if the person was ever faced writh a conflict of interest, they would have to disqualify themselves from dealing with it. Unopposed candidates are: Karla Johnson for Kane County Clerk, Ver Jean Caruso for Recorder, and Marie Mousaw for Treasurer. Orrin Hatch, signed on to the Private Property Owners Bill of Rights. The bill is designed to protect landowners swamped in a sea of environmental regulations that effectively deny themthe value and use oftheir property, Hatch said. He was bom in California, but moved to Grand Canyon at the age of one when his father, Tom, went there to work for the railroad and later the Fred Harvey Company. Eddie graduated from Grand Canyon High School in 1971. His first permanent job with the NPS was as a maintenance project supervisor at Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, near Los Angeles. From 1981-8Lopez oversaw such projects as restoring the Paramount Ranch, an old western movie set within the park. Lopez moved to Death Valley 5, National Monument in 1985 where he oversaw the maintenance operation for the entire park, including the restoration of historic buildings dating to the parks early mining days. Lopez attended Arizona State University and is married to Susie Nelson, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Susie has an interest in business, and recently spent a year in Japan managing a restaurant at an international center. They will be moving to Zion with their dog, Montana, in April. |
