He had lieen standing in this very spot for a lot of years, growing taller and stronger and doing his very to get to that "PERFECT" Christmas tree shape. lots of Piney s friends over theyears had been cut down and taken off by laughing, excited families to be decorated for the holidays, and Piney was fairly Inmting with excitement of his own this early morning because he just knew that this year he too would be chosen. David lost his Ninja Turtle and I spent twenty minutes looking for it The toilet ran over and Jamie kept pointing to the water on the floor and yelling Ninja Turtle, Michelangelo, Leonardo. Everyone walked us to the car. I was sobbing into a pillow case. I couldnt help it I was going to miss them. because he was mi ssing a branch or two on his backside, (which, by the way, he couldn't see anyway) that maybe he wasnt Christmas tree material. For the next two weeks, Piney watched and listened as the happy, loving families came and chose their trees. One by one Pineys friends all around him were cut down and hauled off to celebrate the holidays with a special family all of their own. Pretty soon Piney began to feel very lonesome and left out. He was the only little Pinyon Pine tree left standing in his neighborhood. A tear dropped from the top branch and worked its way down to the snow beneath. Just when he thought his tiny heart was about to burst into a million tear drops, he heard the sound ofbells tinkling . . . . and and children a dog and, laughing yes barking! Piney hurriedly shook himself off and stood as tall and straight as he could. Down across the valley he could see them making their way slowly through the huge drifts offreshly fallen snow. .... There was a family of four with a sleigh and a funny little dog that kept disappearing in the snow every time he jumped. They stopped and looked at all of the trees left as they made their way slowly up to where Piney stood. he Piney held his breath didnt dare even twitch a branch. He was so excited and so scared! Oh, what would he do if they didnt want him either!? He simply couldnt bare it! Look Mommy, look," said little Annie as she did her best to dance around the tree. Its perfect, just perfect.
