Jenkins proclaimed March 10 - 16 as Girl Scout Week in Kanab. a special proclamation, In the mayor asked all citizens to recognize and support the contributions made by Girl Scouts and adult Girl Scout volunteers toward improving the quality of life in Kanab. The mayor cited Girl Scouting as an important way for girls to become productive and women through wholesome and enjoyable activities. He also praised Girl Scouting as an investment in tomorrows leadership and included a special welcome to Girl Scoutings newest members, Diasy Girl Scouts, who are five years old or in kindergarten. Girl Scouts will celebrate their 73rd birthday on March 12. Girl Scout councils all across the United States will sponsor events based on the theme "The Best Parts the Fun". The Utah Girl Scout Council will coordinate Girl Scout Week event for Kanab. The Girl Scout Week proclamation was signed by Mayor Jenkins in the presence of JoLynn Hoyt on self-relian- t, GIRL SCOUT DISPLAY in the window at Dukes Clothing in downtown Kanab is publicizing Girl On display are many of Scout Week, March 10-1-6. the activities, crafts and projects of the local troop. Two Firemen Complete Arizona Training Course Kanab Fire Chief Mike Noteman and Captain Eric Judd have just completed an 18 hour training school in Sedona, Arizona. The course, Fire Incident Command was taught by Fire Chief Allen Brunincini from the Phoenix Fire Department. About 100 firemen attended the course. The Kanab Fire Department responded to one call on March 6. Trash in the garbage packer truck caught fire from hot ashes. The truck was just south of the fire station and water was used to knock down the fire. The truck then travelled to the dump and unloaded the trash which took care of the situation. This again brings up the dangers in March 6, 1985. regard to dumping hot ashes trash. Many serious fires have been caused by this dangerous practice. Make sure ashes are put in metal containers. KANAB WEATHER PREC Registration For Outreach Classes, 19th Southern Utah State College outreach classes will be taught spring quarter in a number of southern Utah communities. Included are three English classes in Orderville and another six classes in business, music, education, botany and physical education in Kanab. While registration for each course can be completed at the first class session, it is recommended that students take advantage of a general registration session scheduled to be held March 19 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Kanab Middle School. Two of the Kanab classes start March 19, both scheduled to be held at the middle school. While the first class will be held on a Tuesday, the remainder of classes will be held on Wednesdays through spring quarter. This first monthly meeting is scheduled at the County Commission Chambers in Kanab, March 15 at 7 p.m. Each organization participating will have a representative there, plans and itineraries of activities will be passed out so others wishing to take part can plan their function knowing what else is happening and when. Many of Jann's folks were here for the occasion. Word was received here Sunday of the death of Willard Meeks in Salt Lake City. He was shoveling snow and had a heart attack.
