To purchase the plots at a suggested price of S2,000 an acre would put the cost of the land alone at $320,000. Add to this a minimum of $50,000 worth of equipment and $50,000 for living quarters, storage restricted ownership of land irrigated by water from federal reclamation projects. The restriction set a limit of 160 acres to any individual farmer and was designed, according to 160-ac- Theodore President Roosevelt, to help protect small family farmers. As the years have gone by, the population of the nation and the world has grown and the restriction has become more and more to enforce. impossible Demands for high production from lands eventually persuaded one Interior Secretary after another to avoid and look past the facilities, But now a former Western Governor, Cecil Andrus of Idaho, as Secretary of the Interior has, for some unstated reason, determined the Reclamation Act of 1902 should be enforced for the first time in decades. The White House has attempted to justify this ' newfound policy of enforcement with the same language that re equipment shops, and livestock pens law. Right now I have before me no less than h six and pieces of paper, with notes, half notes and promises of other notes written all over them. As T see folks on the street, they give me information. If they cant catch me at home (and these days my husband cant find me there either), they call my mother and she relays the messages, or notes are dropped off at my back door. You would not believe the unor-- ' ganized way this thing goes together, so if its of any use or comfort, or enjoyment to you readers, its a miracle. Then after its put together and sealed up (I would not dare let anyone see the way I type, only Mr. Brown), its all over town to find some good soul who is going to work in Kanab on the morrow and will gladly drop this off at the office. So there you have it, the news of the Valley for another week. The Ted Baca family is now the new owners of the Starlite Cafe and Motel.
