Show Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 Who's going to win in week four football? Continued from p. This theyre B1 find out just how much theyve improved over last year. Northridge 35, Layton 20: Layton is a much, much better very tough defensively. Look for the Braves to turn their season around, and it will start with Cyprus. Olympus 24, Woods Cross 17: Sky View had absolutely no answer for Fitisemanu last Friday, and the Wildcats hope that will carry over this week. Flowever, Olympus is a much better football team than Sky View. This game is a great test for Woods Cross, and well weeks games JL football team than they were last year. Not enough to upset Northridge, however. But it will be closer than most think. Clearfield 28, Weber 7: Clearfield has really struggled this year, but Weber is just flat-obad. If the Falcons dont win this one, its going to be a long, long season. rtfirrxftpnrmrtflh Vikes, Darts to play for bragging rights Continued from p. Davis Darts ready to play Viewmont Continued from p. B1 also backs has complirunning mented him. Olsen is a weapon in himself. But, the Darts are at their best when the other runners get involved. That was evident last Friday against Riverton. Olsen gave Davis 61 total yards, which included only seven on the ground. Against Riverton, Davis halfbacks Brent Tenney, Bryan Kariya, Kam Hoskins and Andrew Lloyd ran for 365 yards. Tenney and Kariya both went over the century mark and the juniors, Hoskins and Lloyd, contributed 88 yards between them. Davis Head Coach Ryan Bishop is known as an offensive coach with an affection for the passing game. That reputa tion preceded him when he came to Kaysville from Bear River in 2001. The early part of this season has shown Bishops flexibility in adapting to whatever his team's strong point is. He has continually stressed the defensive side of the ball. it doesn't Defensively, appear Viewmont has many weaknesses. They have given up a total of 23 points in their three games so far. They were 37 seconds away against Bountiful last week from not allowing a single touchdown for two straight games. The Vikings forte on olfense is definitely to throw the ball. If Viewmont can throw the ball like they want to, the Vikings should be able to come out on top. Davis has really only played one team that likes to throw the ball and that was Brighton. They have shown a definite ability to stop the run defensively. But can the Darts stop the Viewmont passing attack? Only Friday will tell. One interesting aspect to this game could be on special teams. Viewmont has a very good kicker in Trevor Heiner. He can kick it through the uprights from well beyond 50 yards, and that could be a plus in a tight game situation. The main special teams concern for Davis might not be Heiner, it might be their punt and kickoff coverage teams. Box Elder returned the first Davis kickoff of the year 92 yards against the Darts. Those coverage inconsisten cies might come back to haunt the Darts this Friday because Miles returns punts and kickoffs for Viewmont. Miles will be the fastest man on the field and will cause headaches for the Davis coaching staff. Don't be surprised if a major turning point in the game comes through special teams. - ' feeds off each other, so an early lead could mean lights out for Olympus. The main reason for the Cats slow starts has been turnovers, so in order for them to jump on Olympus they will need to play mistake-free football, just like in the final three quarters of last weeks game. But despite the Titans poor play as of late, Coach Teo isnt taking them lightly, pointing out that this school has a great winning tradition B1 terback Jimmy Lindsley and running back Max Moala. The key for Woods Cross will be to put pressure on Lindsley. much like they did in the second half of last weeks game. For the Wildcats, they will be looking to jump on the Titans early, reversing a trend of falling behind and playing catch-uWhen they scored early in the second half last week, it was the first lead that they had had this season. Gunter stressed, however, that the rivalry is second to in the games importance region, and the importance of starting region with a win. Weve just got to get more consistent, he said. The ViewmontDavis game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Viewmont High School. B1 offenses one of the fastest they'll face all year. They're a really good football team. Theyve got some speed and some great athletes, he said And as for trying to contain them? We're still working on that, Gunter said. Well try and contain their runs, slow them down a little bit. Theyve got speed on offense and a real disciplined line. And, of course, you never know whats going to happen in a rivalry game.
