In fact, there are members living all the way from Brigham City to Salt Lake City. The church, now housed in the Wasatch Evangelical Free Church's facilities at 4433 S. 3 100 West, Roy was part of the Decade of Harvest program of the Assemblies of God. The goal of that program was to build 5.000 new churches duhng the 1990s. I Elder Andrew Johnson, son of Tom and Ramona Johnson, has returned home after successfully serving in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. Steed, son ot Richard and Sharon Steed, has returned home after successfully serving in the Hawaii Honolulu Mission for the Church of Saints. AMIGO International was the church planted in northern Utah and the first formed through the churchs Hispanic Distnct in 1990. It joins a number of Assemblies of God churches throughout the state, including three in Davis County: Abundant Life m North Salt Lake; in the morning and we use it in the evening, Valdez said. He admits that as a pioneering congregation, the church has had its ups and downs, but we're stronger now than we've ever been. The congregation has purchased land in west Roy and hopes to begin building within the next couple of years. We hope to build debt-freso that will take a few years. We're working in God's timing?1 Valdez said The wait has been made easier because the Wasatch Evangelical congregation has been generous in then help. They allow us to use their church and even house our offices. God's blessed us and them. Valdez said. AMIGO holds a Tuesday evening Bible study at 7 p.m. Sunday School is at 5 p.m. Sunday, followed by a praise and worship service at 6 p.m. The Evangelical Free Church uses it Fust Assembly of God, Gearfield; and the Kaysville Assembly of God. The Rev. Gerald V Valdez, AMIGO's pastor said he came out of the Brigham City Assemblies of God church, under the leadership of the Rev. Tony Perea. Decade of Harvest, worked to enlist one million prayer partners through the decade and to train 20,000 to carry the word of the Lord forward. With the decade coming to a close, Valdez, said the denominations figures are real close to that goal. Valdez said he sees the congregation as an international church. Despite its name, its not only a church for Hispamcs.' Currently services are held in English only, but as the church grows Valdez hopes to hold services in both English and Spamsh. And while the congregation's name, AMIGO, implies an Hispanic The AMIGO congregation focuses on helping hurting people in every area. Valdez said. They work in downtown Ogden in a ministry to the homeless there. While there are no homeless living near the church, Valdez believes a congregation which has resources to draw upon is best able to help those m need in an inner city setting. Theres a lot of ministry we re involved in. I feel we're doing what the Lord wanted here. He described his members as a people of heart, a people who loves the Lord and is willing to turn to e, Him. Sudanese choir performs at Lutheran church - Cross of Christ BOUNTIFUL Lutheran Church, 1840 S. 75 East, will resound with praise of a very different sort on Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m., when members of the Sudanese refugee community of Salt Lake City will offer music featunng distinctive African instruments and harmonies. He will speak on September 26, 1999 at 9 a.m. in the Farmington 20th Ward. 1885 N. Summerwood Dnve. The service will be followed by a potluck dinner. Both the service and potluek are open to the public. Those who wish to attend the potluck are BCC Sister Trudi Anderson, daughter of Roger and Mary Ann Anderson has been called to serve in the Argentina Rosario Mission for the Church of Jesus Saints. There are slightly under 1.000 Sudanese refugees in Utah primarily from the Nuer tnbe. Their numbers were recently augmented by the influx of refugees from the Mabaan people, who speak Arabic. Those refugees wish to extend their thanks and a special invitation to those who shared warm clothes to wear last winter. Sudan is a country: which rarely sees temperatures below freezing.
