SEE PAGE 11. Christmas break is over, winter quarter is in session and the snow doesn't seem to stop. So fo r many SU skiers, the place to relax and unwind is the slopes. Because of the convenient locations of Elk Meadows and Brian Head, these seem to be the resom that are most popular with SU students. SU students are not the only ones to "hit" these two resons however. Both Barbra Foster, group coordinator of sales for Brian Head, and Brian Anderson, marketing manager of Elk Meadows, feel that the resorts majority in numbers of skiers are from Las Vegas and southern California. But, according to Foster, the busines that Brian Head has had from southern California this year hasn't been as much as in past years. She attributes this to the snowfall throughout the western United States. According to Anderson, the snow that has fallen d1is year has been the "best snow in seven years." Because of the "good" snow that has covered the slopes, business has been equally good for the two southern Utah resorts. "I feel business has been pretty steady (for Brian Head}," c.ommenred Foster. Because of~addition of night skiing along with the top entertainment that she says is brought to Brian Head, Foster feels that business should remain "steady" throughout the season . Cro s country skiing compared to downhill skiing isn't a popular, but is offered at both rewns and both teach cross country skiing lessons. Th trails however, have not only attracted skiers, but magaz1nes as well. According to Anderson, Elk Meadow's ski trails have been published in magazines because of the beautiful scenery at the ski resort. Th season at Elk Meadows usually ends afi:er Easter, but this year Anderson hopes it will stay open longer. The season at Brian Head will end on April 18. . |
