However, most undergraduate students do not think this includes conducting research or scholarship in their chosen field until they have entered graduate school. In an attempt to increase undergraduate research and scholarship...._SUU faculty and students will particpate in the second annual Student-Faculty Scholarship Day, Wednesday. "The annual student-faculty scholarship day is intended to encourage and promote scholarship among faculty and students. The conference honors and showcases the cooperative efforts between members of both groups to enhance their academic, professional and personal growth, • said Lynn White, assistant professor of psychology and event organizer for the-conference. The theme of the conference is, "In Pursuit of Excellence· and in the spirit of academic excellence, participating students and faculty will showcase their work in the halls of the Sharwan Smith Student Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as a part of the poster session. Six oral research presentations will also be given during the day in the Starlight Room . Prize money will be awarded to the winning presentations. Guest lecturers will visit the Starlight Room to share their post-graduation experiences with all SUU students and faculty. (con tinued on page 8) Egg hunt carrie~ on tradition BY STACY VENTURA SENIOR STAFF WRITER . The men of Sigma Nu are preparing for their upcoming 13t~ annual community Easter egg hunt. The Sigma Nu Easter egg hunt was relatively small when it first began 123 years ago . "It (Easter egg hunt] started out really small with on ly about one hundred kids and 400 to 500 eggs," said Tyler Nehrenz. a senior business major from Manti, Utah . Now, it has grown into one of the community's biggest events. "This year we have around 16,000 [plastic] eggs that we are currently filling with candy and we have about $1 ,200 in prizes ," said Nehrenz, Sigma Nu treasurer. The Easter egg h1,mt will be April 14 at 8 a.m. at the City Park. All staff, faculty and non-traditional students are invited to attend the event along with the rest of the community. "We are trying to reach all non-traditional students who have children ," said Nehrenz. "We 'are trying to encourage as many [non-traditional students} as possible to come. We also want to give back to the community for what they have given to the school." Everyone who attends will have a chance to ~ meet the Easter Bunny. Nehrenz said although the Easter egg hunt is Sigma Nu's philanthropy, Alpha Phi played a large role and added tremendous support to the project.
