The 15 presentations will include the Grace A. Tanner Distinguished Lecture April 13, and an SUU Student Academic Awards program April 27. "We have a wide variety of topics which will be discussed by very . , knowledgeable presenters," Carol Gale, coordinator of the series, said. "Topics range all the way from dinosaurs to preventing frauds and scams to the impact of the internet on politics to the United States' world political, military, and moral role.There will be some interesting perspectives offered.· All SUU Convocations Series presentations are free , and the general public is invited to attend. Each program is scheduled from 11 :30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The April 13 Tanner Lecture will be in the Randall L. Jones Theatre, and a site is still being finalized for the April 27 academic awards. All other programs will be in the SUU Auditorium . The series will begin today with an award winning, one-woman play titled Faces of America. Fran Deleon will play nine different characters throughout the play. The play is designed to "address . issues of multi-culturalism in today's society through the eyes of GenerationX,• said Neal Cox, SUU director of public relations. At the end of the play, the audience will participate in a discussion about culture and stereotypes in today's society. Payne's work has received several awards from the Society of Illustrators of New York. · On April 13, Sissela B'ok, who is the wife of Derek Bok, the former president , of Harvard University, will speak in the Randall L. Jones Theatre as part of the Grace A. Tanner Distinguished Lecture Series. Bok received her doctorate from Harvard and has written on bio-ethics, practical ethics and public affairs. Hilary Tann, professor of music and music composer, will be the final featured speaker for the series on April 20. According to Cox, Tann is known as one of the three major female composers in the world. During the Convocation, some of Tann's compositions will be performed by SUU musicians. The final Convocation of the spring 2000 series will be the Student Academic Awards, held on April 27. The students who have excelled in their disciplines will be honored at that time, Cox said.
