Show THE CAMPUS Spring rush is now on By D.W. ANDERSON SENIOR STAFF WRITER Signs are up, flags are raised, and the Greeks are out. It's the 1998 spring rush for SUU's m en's fraternities Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi and sorority Delta Psi Omega. "Rush week is basically for the nonGreeks on campus," said Garret Gunderson, Sigma Chi vice president. Gunderson, a sophomore business major from Price, said t hat the rushes on campus are to get people acquainted with fraternities and sororities. The spring rush is the second rush of the year for Greek organizations here. "We need two rushes a year in order to provide an opportunity for more members t o join, and to promote greater diversity in the fraternity," said Sigma Nu Commander, Francisco Machuca, a senior zoology/French major from Las Vegas, Nev. Machuca said Sigma Nu was the first fraternity on campus and the SUV chapter got its national charter faster than any other chapter in history. "I want people to come out and see what we're about, and not to have any preconceived notions," Machuca said. "We are out to help the community; we are against hazing. Love, truth, and honor is our m otto." Bason, a business administration major from Price, also said Delta Psi Omega is focused on helping the community. Gunderson said Alpha Phi and Z eta T au Alpha, the women's fraternities at SUU, are not rus hing this week, since they rush at different times. Jennifer McPartland, United Greek Council officer, a senior history major from Sandy, said the wom en 's fraternities are not aJlowed to rush at the same time as the men's.
