Show THE ARTS[ AND ENTERTAINMENT 1,.=:i:llliiol SU' s Acclamation .goes on tour Choirs gear up for Christmas Acclamation, a Southern Utah University 12member showchoir, will be busy during the first half of December performing a total of 30 shows in 11 days. During eight of those days, the student group will be performing its show "One Magic Christmas" on what has become an annual tour which includes several northern Utah locations. Acclamation will present shows in Logan, Bountiful, Tremonton, Brigham City, Salt Lake City, Ephraim, Gunnison, Panguitch, Enterprise, and Cedar City between Dec. 9-16. Prior to the tour, several shows are scheduled in the Cedar City area. Today the group will perform at 9 p.m. in the SUU PE Building as part of the SUUSA's Festival of Trees. A Saturday 9 a.m. show is scheduled in the SUU Student Center. "Fantasy in Frost," a traditional holiday celebration, will also include Acclamation in a Dec. 8 performance at 6 p.m. All Acclamation Christmas season performances are free. "We are excited about this year's Christmas show," DEl Beatty, coordinator of the SUU Entertainment Bureau and director of Acclamation, said. "It is a show that does a wonderful job of showcasing the individual talents of the group; it has great choreography, wonderful costumes, and beautiful music." Tour performances start Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Tremonton Community Center in a show sponsored by the Box Elder County Sunshine Generation. Dec. 10 the group will perform several shows at the Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Dec. 11, a number of performances are scheduled at religious services in and around Salt Lake City. •• •• •• •• •• •• • The Associated Students of Utah State University are sponsoring two afternoon concerts Dec. 12 in Logan. That evening the troupe will be in Brigham City at the Lincoln Center for a 7 p.m. show. The next day two performances are scheduled at Fashion Place Mall in Murray, a combined community-civic show will be held in Gunnison, and an evening presentation is set at Snow College in Ephraim. A Snow College performing group, Ascension, is sponsoring the day's final show. A morning assembly at Gunnison Valley High School, an afternoon show at Panguitch High School, and an evening performance for the Southern Utah Board of Realtors in Cedar City are planned for Dec. 14. The tour concludes with performances at several southern Utah elementary and high schools the next two days. Two banquet shows for private groups are also planned on those two days. Charity Pierce, sophomore, Bountiful; Heather Prisbrey, sophomore, Logandale, Nev.; Scott Prisbrey, sophomore, Logandale, Nev.; Cory Rivers, sophomore, Cedar City; Kim Schiemer, senior, Honolulu, Hawaii; and Neil Shumway, freshman, Kanosh. Members of the production staff are choreographer Jennifer Boyer, Orem, and sound technician Gavin Hullinger, Summit, Iron County. Two performances of the SUU music department's Christmas Concert are scheduled Sunday at the Thorley Recital Hall. A variety of Christmas music will be presented at both the 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. performances by three groups including the SUU Women's Choir, the SUU Concert Choir and Opus, a vocal chamber ensemble which performs popular choral works. An ensemble of professional musicians from Las Vegas, Nev., and St. George will accompany the concert choir in its presentation of Ottorino Respighi's "Laud to the Nativity." Vocal soloists for that number are Carol Ann Modesitt, a member of the SUU music Bart Shanklin faculty; George Dyer, an artist with the Utah Opera; and SUU student Marlo Madsen, Cedar City. Student soloists for the performance of Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" are Lori Banks, Jare'd Hansen, Cedar City; Amy Duncan, Lyman; Aimee Oveson, Cleveland; Jennifer James, Orem; Glen Anderson, Seattle, Wash.; Shane Pierce, Clarkdale, Ariz.; and James Wilcock, Price. Opus and the SUU Concert Choir are directed by Bart Shanklin, head of the music department. Modesitt directs the SUU Women's Choir. A $3 admission donation is requested. O'Sullivan Industries, Inc.
