Selected as the representative from the Rock Mountain Regio n, Mullennax has debated for SUU for four years and is the SUU debate squad captain. He is the second S UU student to be named to the All American Debate Team. Aimee Anderson received the honor in 1992. Suzanne Larson, director of fo rensics at S UU, noted that "Mullennax had a distinguished competitive record this year and deserved the honor." Larson, mentioning a few of his awards, reported that "Mullennax debated in elimination rounds in four of the national districts this year. He also received the prestigious 'Shosky Award' fo r being the top speaker at the Colorado College Tournament and placed first in team debate at the Arizona State University Aztec Invitational." Mullennax, a native of Salt Lake, came to southern Utah because he wanted to get out of the city but still stay close to home. He had heard good things about SUU and the debate program. Mullennax participated in the Taylorsvi lle High School's program doing impromptu, Congress, and Llncoln-Douglas Debate. After coming to SUU, Mullennax shifted to CEDA team debate. He said the shift proved a difficult ch allenge because of his limited debate background. Mullennax said, "The shift from one person debate to CEDA team competition was difficult because of the tough national schedule SUU attends." Mullennax went on to explain, "having a debate partner that worked closely with you made the adjustment a lot easier." Mullennax has been debating the past adjustment a lot easier." Mullennax has been debating the past two years with Gavin Williams, a sophomore from Salt Lake C ity.
