The Royals were down by six points at halftime, but hit their first five shots after intermission and pulled to a 4 tie, just two minutes into the third quarter. From that time on, the Royals took command and led all the way to the gun. Viewmont, with the aid of a couple of turnovers and questionable calls by the officials, made a game of it. The Vikings closed to within one point with 2:35 left to play but Roy was able to keep its cool, and won by ten. The Royals spent most of the last eight minutes, playing in its offense, and put up only the sure-shotRoy missed a few foul shots, but hit several Fred Fernandes was top scorer with 45-3- 85-7- 34-3- four-com- er s. With Fernandes, Herzog and Nickerson dribbling at and Sindle and Vanderwood waiting under the basket, the Royals were invincible. The only way Viewmont could stop their ball control was to foul someone, and hope he missed from the line. But Roy was able to convert 16 of 25 foul-shattempts, and that was good enough for victory. The Vikings had one more field goal, than did Roy, but they got only 4 of 7 from the line. Credit Coach Ted Smith with some sound strategy from the locker room, four-corn- mid-cou- rt ot in this win. At halftime he instructed his team to face-u- p to their opponents, and keep them from launching their 20 and 25 foot shots. Meanwhile, the Royals went to Smith had admonished his troops to take the 15 foot wing-shot- s that Viewmont had been allowing and Roy began hitting around the 15 foot perimeter to take the game away from Viewmont. The win at Viewmont kept Roy in a tie with Layton for second place in Region One. Clearfield is still on top with a 1 record, but must play Layton, Roy and Weber in its last three league games. Clearfield is two games in front of Roy and Layton, and would have to lose to least two to share or give up the region championship, but the Lancers and Royals are still in contention. work. 9-- Enthusiastic ski tourers pass an unusual snow covered rock formation.
