Golfers start first fall season at Beaver By Dennis Brunner The Kanab High School golf team has their work cut out for them if they are to defend their region golf crown. With the sea- son being changed to fall from spring, Kanab lost four of their top five golfers to football. Only most improved golfer Andy Cook returns from last years squad. Coach Curt Hawkins is looking for great things from Cook, expecting him to be the team leader. Andy has been getting better and better each week of practice. He is not real long off the tee, but he is almost always right down the middle ofthe fairway, said Hawkins. Besides Cook, those making the trip to Beaver for the first match include Provo transfer Ben Hendrickson, Ben Chamberlain, Cole Shakespear, Todd Smith, Lance Davis and Drew Judd. Other golfers on the team, but not making the trip, include jun- iors David Pepper, Derrek Coleman, Chris Heaton, Lance Mackelprang, Truett Chamber-laifreshmen Skyler Judd, Taylor Linton, J.K. Glover, Adam Hiscock, Josh Fleshman and Tyler Juber. Hawkins is pleasantly surprised with the young teams progress. He said, We are a lot further along than I thought we would be at this time. Hawkins looks for Beaver as the team to beat, with Kanab battling for their sixth straight region title. With no seniors on the team, Kanab looks to be in good shape for several years.
