After she married Graydon, they went fishing on their honeymoon and then out on the trap line. Graydon was a government trapper. She would card wool from the sheep and make quilts. She didnt have a lot of money. Graydon worked on the tunnel in Zion National Park for $40 a month but they never lacked anything of importance. They owned a farm at eight mile, which used to be called the strip. They raised turkeys at the farm in 1950 and ,1951. That didnt seem to be too profitable either. They ran the one and only mobile grocery store. You just had to listen for the bell at your corner. They owned the first car wash and the first garbage collection business. She supported Graydon on all his adventures whether she wanted to or not. One of the hardest things was when she lost her daughter Edna at three months old of pneumonia. Graydon died of cancer when she was 58 years old. The children were all happy when she married Rex Schoenfeld because he really took good care of her. He died in 1991. They had a few good golden years together. Leola was a hard worker. She worked in restaurants, motels, worked on the farm and even drove the tractor. One of her most precious values is her family (that also included all her brothers and sisters), so it wasnt too hard for her to accept being a grandma at age 34. |
