Show The Round Robin in Kanab is over and by the time you read this, the top seven teams will already have played their first game in Provo in the state tourney. There were few surprises, except that few expected Milford to sd this state tournament out at h'nne. But the Tigers just couldnt P it together the necessary wins. Ironically they put together good leads in the first quarter against Panguitch and North Sevier, but their coudnt maintain just momentum. At press time we still hadnt learned how Gunnison came out with Wendovef in a playoff game Monbut if they won, they will day, be the seventh team to represent Region 12 at the state tournament. And dont ever count Danny Hills Bulldogs out of the state tourney, where theyve earned a reputation as a formidable force. Other Region 12 representatives in their order of finish at the Round Robin are Beaver, Kanab, Bryce Valley, Enterprise, Piute and Panguitch with Gunnison winning the consolation and seventh place. The Beavers never faltered in their bid for their second Region 12 championship, squashing Panguitch in their first encounter, outrunning the Bryce Valley Mustangs then out hustling the Cowboys in their brand new gym. Piute, who won the Division I crown, didnt fare so well. Once past Enterprise they fell to Kanab and Bryce Valley for a fifth place finish after being almost invincible during league play. Clair Ramsays Mustangs third place finish didnt come as any great surprise, as they were the only team to upset both of the Division leaders during the regular But while Claires son season. Jill Carter was second in the public speaking, John prepared Christiansen was second in the extemporaneous public speaking. The Parliamentary procedure team consisting of John Christiansen (chairman), Tracy White, Charlie White, John Webster, and Glenn Burr was also second place. David Roberts won first place in the Dairy Production proficiency award. John Christiansen won first place in the Sheep Production proficiency Award. Rodd McMullin won first place in the Agricultural Mechanics Proficiency Award. omi will ujoJgIi The Tigers from Milford High School closed out their 1983-8- 4 basketball season this past weekend by losing to Panguitch and North Sevier. They certainly began the tournament in a proper way by beating Wayne County 74 to 64; however, from this point they lost three straight, the final two games being to Panguitch 65 to 52 and to North Sevier 71 to 68. Certainly one of the stars for the entire Tournament would be He was the only John Dotson. in double figures in the PanTiger guitch game as he hit on nine of seventeen field goals and six of ten from the free throw line for a total of twenty-fopoints. In addition to this Dotson pulled down thirteen rebounds and had eleven saves, most of which were blocked shots. Mark Yardley, who had been in double figures all season was held to eight points. Dotson hit on ten of seventeen attempts from the floor and eight of nine from the free throw line for a total of twenty-eigh- t points. Scott Sullivan, the sophomore point guard had his first big game of the season. It was a good turnout with all of the wrestlers and their parents, the coaches and their wives attending. All of the Seniors received awards and plaques, along with Kemp Barney who received an award for the Most Improved Player of the Year. The coaches received plaques, and after the wrestlers wrestled their fathers, a banquet was served for everyone. THURSDAY - SATURDAY March The Round Robin continued in Kanab this weekend. The Beavers played the Bryce Valley Mustangs on Thursday night. The final score 3, with the Beavers ended at being the victorious team. The first half was really close, tat the second half was when u Beavers came ahead. Bryan Wood was high scorer with 24 points. Thane Marshall and KeithStucki each brought in 14 points, and Steve Hutchings along with Dave Roberts had 8 points each. Friday night the Mighty Blue Machine had a great game, when they took theRegionalChamplonshipover the Kanab Cowboys. Steve Hutchings was the highest scorer having 24 points, Keith Stuck! had 15 points, and Thane Marshall had 11 points. 1. Even as as the game was, the Tigers still only had fourteen turnovers, but failed to do much with the Wolves as they could only force them into seven. Milford closed out the season with a 11-record which has to be disappointing to the coaches and players; the bright spot has to be the youth of the Tigers for the next two or three seasons, being led by Scott Sullivan who really came on strong towards the end of the season. Along with Sullivan, Sherwood, Bridge, Holm, Mayer and Roach gave the Tigers a good nucleus to build on.
