Show I j i REVIEW. B6 March 31. 1966 Side walk Problem Gets Teacher, Parent Study Action of the Granite School Board has stirred up the pudding and added to the ost-settled problems of parents and teachers trying to et sidewalks and street light-- g nearby the Hill View Elementary School. Barents and school faculty were all set for an April 13 hearing on a proposed special improvement district for the installation of sidewalks, curbing and street lights to accommodate 350 stud aits scheduled to walk to the school next fall. The school Is at 1035 East alm- 4500 South. Major engineering problems now have been created, the County Commission was Doxey recalled that die area has developed for a walking school (a school to which students must walk) during a population buildup in the vicinity over the last four years. Although but little resistance is expected in obtaining resident approval of the improvement district, there is the major problem of installing lights and sidewalk along the street which soon will be widened. The plan necessitates a hurried acquisition of right of way. Commissioner Marvin G. Jenson told Mrs. Doxey that opposition to the county budget last winter resulted in elimination of almost $400,000 that told last week, by action of the School Board in altering the boundaries of the school population. With the boundary changes, involving approximately seven blocks m three areas adjoin ing the originally proposed special improvement district the anticipated walking student population will expand from 350 to some 800. A major problem complicated the plans when the area change brought a section of 45th South into the proposed district The County Commission was told that the section ultimately must be widened from the present 66 to 80 feet width. Mrs. Doxey noted the diffl If culty attached to creation of any Improvement district and urged the Commission to approve inclusion of the enlarged area. The public hearing originally set for April 13 was cancelled when Mrs. Doxey and Mr. Dahl explained they would be unable to prepare all needed Information by that date. A new public hearing will be set, however, before June 1. And prior to that public hearing before the County Commission, parents in toe proposed enlarged improvement district will be invited to a meeting at the school, where details of district objectives will be related.
