Show f Seniors t Celebrate At Holiday Bazaar Whoever said, Children are our most precious commodity, had not met the remarkable citizens who participated on Nov. 16, in the annual Holiday Bazaar" held at the Golden Years Center in Bountiful. Unlike many similar events, this bazaar is not a e but an tradesmens fair where journeymen craftsmen rent space to display and sell their wares: exquisitely embroidered or intricately patterned knitted afghans and pillow covers, hand painted china and ceramics, beautiful tree ornaments and Christmas decorations, tatting, toys, quilts, clocks, lapidary jewelry, doll clothes, baskets, candy, for and clothing everyone. se-ni- pr fund-raise- r, old-tim- items-someth- ing For many on fixed incomes, this bazaar offers an opportunity to .earn a little extra money for the special things they like to do, Katherine Findlay is a charmnative of Abering: deen, Scotland, whose sparkling eyes belie the fact that she is blind. The money she earns selling her hand knit pillow covers, afghans, caps, and scarves enables her to escape the cold Utah winters at her daughters home in Mesa Arizona. Mrs. Findlay, a widow, learned to knit when she was only 8, making caps and scarves for the soldiers serving in the trenches during World War I. Using her fingers to count the stitches, Mrs. Findlay creates beautifully patterned afghans and pillow covers which she enters in the State Fair every year, Always earning a first, she proudly reports. Forced to spend months in bed Board OKs Budget , this past year after breaking her hip, Mrs. Findlay took special orders to knit and fill her time. She buys all her yarn on sale so she can sell her work at reasonable prices. Persons interested in ordering something made by a master may contact her at Kathryn Jennings is an artist who took up china painting after many years of oil painting. Mrs. Jennings only sells her delicately ornamented bells, vases, and boxes at the bazaar because she is too busy with her many other activities to accept special orders. Despite her 83 years, Mrs. Jennings still works as a newspaper correspondent, serves as a community volunteer, and visits the Mrs. Jennings, who takes two classes a week at the Center, wishes that more citizens would utilize the wide variety of classes and activities offered there. Wilford Averett is a retired electrician who makes unique clocks of exotic woods, such as buckeye, redwood, and sequoia. Mr. Averett purchases the rough slabs of wood, carefully hand picking each piece, from mills in California. Afer sanding and polishing, the wood is coated with an epoxy polymer before the numbers and hands are mounted. The quartz clock mechanism, which is battery run, is then installed, and the result is a most attractive and distinctive wall clock.
