Mrs. Norma Dalton and Lloyd Smith from the USU Extension Service visited the school and gave the students many excellent safety tips concerning their bicycles. Bike Rodeo was held Thursday afternoon with Smith and Mrs. Dalton guiding bike riders through an obstacle courses, while PTA volunteers aided students in such areas as braking and the use of hand signals. Officer Harold Burner of the Kaysville Police Department introduced the McGruff Safety Program at an assembly on Friday afternoon. Burner narrated a slide presentation which emphasized some bicycle safety tips and gave suggestions on how children should deal with strang- -' ers in differnt situations. Also at the assembly, the win- ners of a safety poster contest were announced. Kindergarten through third grade winners were: Joshua Bull, kindergarten; Carrie Folkman, first grade; Megan Galbraith, second grade; Cindy Brunette, third grade. Winners in grades fourth through sixth were: Loren Hulse, fourth grade; Kaleb Galbraith, fifth grade; and Rachel Steward, sixth grade. These sutdents received a gold medal with their name and grade engraved on it. Newly selected room mothers at Columbia Elementary were honored at a tea held in the media center on Sept. 29. PTA President Chloe Thompson welcomed the room mothers and then introduced her board members.
