Ele-we- re The convention is organized to set up student government rules and regulations under which students are expected to operate during the school year. This gives our students a running start for upper class level elections said school principal, Robert Larson South Weber students swept the Clearfield high junior office elections A Sunset junior high student body president, eighth grade are president and also all former South Weber Elementary students. The training teaches the students how to run for office, how to get elected and how to serve, he said. Elections for student body officers will be held this week. The original constitution uses the same basic rules each year and is subject to change. A committee is set up to go through the original constituition, make ' any changes and present copies to the classes and teachers for approval. At the convention attended by fourth, fifth and sixth grade students, the students can present a motion on the floor for any changes they want. According to parliamentary procedure, the changes are discussed by the house and, if seconded and approved by the committee, become new laws in the constitution. Articles involve how students are organized to provide safety patrols and help teachers, and a variety of other activities. The fifth grade social studies included one week of learning about other types of goverment. On Monday, Anarchy day, one class staged a protest riot. Tuesday was dictatorship day. On Wednesday, Communism day, the students spent their recess cleaning the playground for the good of the state. Thursday was Monarchy day, and another class elected a queen but all were ready to hang the queen by the end of the day. Friday and all during the year the students learn about the Democratic goverment. Learning Is Theme LAYTON SUNSET Learning is the theme of the year at Sunset Junior, High, to help students remember that nothing can be more exciting than learning new v skills.' Sunset Junior High PTSA had a successful back to school night on Sept. 22, collecting many memberships and is now in the g process of a project to buy computers for the school. School pictures will be taken in October. Anyone wishing to have their family portraits taken should watch for further announcements. PTA president for this year is Zelva Goodrich.
