Show AS OTHERS SEE US A prominent capitalist of one of the states in visiting brigham city and looking over the advantages disadvantages etc etc of this city remarked that there Is only one thing lacking to make brigham city thy most sanitary city in the united states thit one thing Is a sewer system this statement was acco accompanied u by the remark that brigham city is the largest city in the united without a eeler in this stat emex piU out oni esteemed critic and it should here be stated that the gentleman things very kindly of brigham city so kindly in fact that he is seriously considering making his home come here said that brig hams big advantage had proven her disadvantage foran the location of the city on a high wash with sloping sides and the formation of the soil being loose and very absorbent absorb ant the citizens have gone along all these years with the thought that a sewer would be an unnecessary expense which could easily be overcome by the private ces pool the idea has undoubtedly found toot root in practically every heart in ia this community in days gone by and we have sat serenely by in the thought that nature had done it all and we need not attempt to spoil what has been done by attempting to better it but the stranger is quick to note the detects defects in a community and it is a mighty unpatriotic citizen who will not give attention and profit by the suggestions made by one who is in a position to offer them there is no denying the fact that brigham city should have a sewer system nature has provided the same facilities for forthe the installation of that also so that the expense of installation can be kept well within the bounds of the municipal itys capacity our business section is the worst situated for or sanitary conveniences of any cy anywhere and if a sewer was installed just one main line through the business district it would be but a short time until it would reach out to all parts of the city there can be no doubt of that and if the money that is now being spent and will be spent in the future for cesspools ces spools was turned only in part to the construction of a sewer system the thing would be accomplished complis hed and we would all wonder at the ease with which it was done Tre montan and garland the population of both towns does not equal one halt half the population of brigham city are equipped with a sewer system and as a result tremonton Tre monton is erecting some of the handsomest business blocks that can be found in any of the cities outside of salt lake or ogden if brigham city had a sewer system there any doubt in the world but that the statement of our good friend referred to would come mighty near being correct we need have no diseases but we will have them until we make our city sanitary cesspools Ces spools are a big step in the right direction but everybody does not have a cesspool and consequently there is danger from unsanitary conditions A sewer could and it would make brigham city an attractive place tor for people of wealth to make their home A ride to salt lake or ogden in the morning and a ride back in the evening is just what business people enjoy and it if this one improvement were made in our city men of wealth would be more attracted I 1 to us than they are we dont begin to realize our resources but we must remember that we cannot successfully cess fully display thern them until we havo have made the exhibit worthy of being displayed this thia sewer question should appeal to us all |
