The Sunnyside Golf Course was constructed mostly as a result of what was once Kaiser Steel, and dedicated in 1958. The course has since undergone some changes, mostly as a result of the husband and wife team of Manuel and Shirley Gonzales. Half the people in this county dont even know we exist, laughed Shirley and Manuel. When Shirley was hired as the golf course manager seven years ago (Manuel is a volunteer helper), the two moved their mobile home to the course, and its been home ever since. No one should ever teach a youth baseball participant to give less than their best effort when participating in games. To do otherwise destroys the concept of team play. It may be, however, that victory is not worth any cost. The goal of these youth baseball programs is to implant in the youth of the community ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and reverence so that they may be finer, stronger and happier youths who will grow up to be good, clean adults. Volunteer adult coaches should bear in mind at all times that the attainment of exceptional athletic skills or the winning of games is secondary to the primary purpose: the moulding of future citizens. They should ask themselves the question: Are we really in this thing for the youth, or for ourselves? Two local graduates of Carbon High and the Helper American Legion baseball teams have been coming in for their share of playing time on the baseball teams of the University of Utah and BYU. Chad Bianco of Helper and Bart Grubbs are members of the U and Y teams respectively. Bianco has been filling the role of designated hitter for the Utes and playing some in the outfield. Much of the bad reputation that hunters have is well deserved, Smith said, citing recent results of interstate law enforcement during the deer and elk season in Utah as an example of the type of behavior that gives hunters a bad name.
