Show Sun Advocate, Price, Utah Friday, May 30, 1986 students compete in Utah Open 50 karate Akbars Karate School sent 50 contestants to the Utah Open Karate Championships recently and brought home 40 places. Akbar Tizpa will start their training for the World Karate Championships which will be held in Japan in 1987. Tizpa said he hopes his students accomplish the same level of performance as in the past. At the state meet in the Kata or form division, Careshmeh Tizpa placed second, Omeid Tizpa third and Bryon OHeron, fourth in brown belt. Purple belt holder Tony the University of Utah and the finals were held at the Salt Lake Hilton Hotel. The 50 warriors from Akbars Karate School did an outstanding job in their performance and received many awards for their efforts. There were over 900 participants and it was one of the largest and most important tournaments in Utah. There were contestants from all over the western United States. Preliminaries were held at 5 school received the Karate School of the Year award, which is one of the highest given. Kathy Trujillo placed third. Kelly Evans placed first in the white belt division. Adults who placed were Karsumi Parsons, a black belt, who placed fourth. Brown belts Dominic Oliveto and Larry Wood placed second and fourth respectivly. Larry Martinez, a purple belt, placed third as did blue belt Jim Beason. White belt Mike Martinez placed second while Ben Stayley placed first and Bill Chaffin placed fourth. fourth, Brandon Olsen fourth and Tony Parsons first in the purple belt division.
