Show Friday, May Sun Advocate, 16, 1986 Price, Utah 9 Court accepts no contest plea (Continued from Page 3) a charge of class A misdemeanor attempted receipt of stolen property. Prior to sentencing, defense on attorney George Harmond strenously objected to the recommendations made in the report prepared by ce the Division of State Corrections in the case. It is obvious that they (the division) do not like this defendant from the recommendations made in the report, Harmond told Ruggeri. Harmond pointed out that while his client had been in trouble in the period from 1979 to 1980, since that time he had been in no trouble until the present time. Harmond also said that the earlier problems had occurred when Parrish was 16 and 17 years of age. The attorney admitted that Parrish had served jail time during that period of time. But for the past six years, Parrish has been a Carbon County resident and has had no problems, Harmond said. He said Parrish is employed part time. Harmond told Ruggeri that Parrish had bought some speakers and, when he found out they were stolen, cooperated fully with authorities. Harmond said in light of his clients cooperation and the other factors, he couldnt understand why the report would term in recommend a the county jail. The recommendation just doesnt make sense and we would strongly disagree with the recommendation made in the report, Harmond told the judge. Deputy county attorney Nick Sampinos said he would have to concur with the recommendations made by Harmond. Sampinos also said there was no restitution involved. Ruggeri then ordered Parrish to serve one year in the county jail, but ordered the case brought before the court for review after 90 days. He ordered Parrish to surrender to the sheriffs office by noon Saturday to begin serving the sentence. In other actions, the court continued a case against John one-ye- Ray Bueno for one week to allow him to secure an attorney. Schindler told Ruggeri the case was before the court on a defense motion to be allowed to withdraw. Schindler said he would have no objection to the withdrawal, but told Ruggeri the trial in the case, which was set for Wednesday afternoon, would have to be vacated and reset. Ruggeri approved the withdrawal and continued the case for one week. At that time, a new trial will be set, the judge said. In another case, the court set a new preliminary hearing date for Patricia Audrey Brown. Brown is charged with one count of felony assault. The new preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 30 at 2 p.m. Recreation area to open Saturday three picnic areas designed for day use by large groups.
