Ori given service award former West Valley reserve police officer who currently works for the Price City Police Department has been given an award recognizing the conA tribution of over 600 hours of volunteer service while in West Valley. Julie Ori received the volunteer services award which said that in 1985 she contributed more volunteer service than any other reserve officer. The West Valley police reserve corps contributed a total of over 5,000 hours of volunteer service last year. Ori was a member of the reserve corps from August 1984 until January 1986, when she resigned to accept a job in Price. Reserve officers assist the regular officers in their duties, many times relieving them so officers can perform other duties. In a prepared release, West Valley officials said last year reserves assisted in traffic control at parades, in DUI roadblocks and at major crime scenes. Most recently, they assisted at a major airplane crash, the release said. The volunteer time is credited with saving the city considerable tax money which would have to be paid in overtime to regular officers.
