The American Lung Assn. (ALA) is offering two longdistance bicycle treks featuring spectacular scenery, rewarding challenges and a lifetime of memories. If you want to savor the United States up close, take a good look third annual ALAs at TransAmerica Bicycle Trek. This e trek is a from Seattle, Wash., to journey Atlantic City, NJ., and is scheduled for June 21, 3,357-mil- cross-countr- y ly ever held in the United States, the TransAmerica Bicycle Trek will take cyclists through the rugged Cascade Mountains to Spokane, across the panhandle of Idaho and into Montana and the ( beauty of Glacier National Park. The trek then travels through North Minnesota, Dakota, Wisconsin, Chicago and across farm land of Indiana and Ohio, into West Virginia, over the Appalachians in Pennsylvania to the famed Boardwalk in Atlantic City. y The odyssey has raised more cross-countr- bicycle than $3 million since its inception in 1987. The third annual trek is expected to raise more than $2.5 million for the ALAs fight against crippling lung diseases. The Pacific Coast Bicycle trek will be a timely getaway for 200 cyclists who eiyoy sunsets and.the rhythm of the surf and who welcome the chance to explore the beautiful coastline. Participants will ride through small seaside resort towns, fishing villages, as well as big metropolitan cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. Between big city stops, cyclists will push their pedals through the scenic California coastal towns of Mendocino, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Carmel, Santa Barbara, San Clemente, Long Beach and dozens of others.
