Down, down the long dark stairs I crept, While all the others lay and slept; I went to where my stocking was And there, oh there was Santa Claus! 2 5- ft & ft fob He said I was a dandy chap And took me plump! upon his lap; For now he sat upon his pack, Just right at home and leaning back. He laughed and danced me up and down. As jolly as a circus clown. A lot of things he told me, too; Ive most forgot a quite a few. His squinty eyes they twinkled so, His beard was white as drifted snow; His lips were red as cherry red, Just like the cap upon his head. Then all at once he said, What ho! Its past the time for me to go. Good-b- my lad, and don t forget Tha t Santa Cla us is with us yet. y, Say, think that I could sleep again ? Not for the world, and not for ten. I peeked one eye and listened till The whole big house was dark and still. Then 14 tsp. salt cups boiling water 2 cans jellied cranberry sauce 2 cups chopped and peeled apples 1 cup chopped walnuts Then, then - there was a tinkly noise Like it could be a thousand toys -Kites, trumpets, trains and painted sleds And dolls with spangles on their heads. red-cheek- The grate was burning warm and bright. It seemed like all the world was light. He leaned against the mantleshelf It was old Santa Claus himself! -- He smiled at me and winked an eye And motioned I should come near by. And when he said, See laddie, see! I wasn t fraid, I couldn t be. A thousand thousand girls and boys Are waiting for their pretty toys. When I have scattered Christmas cheer The world is better for a year. Its giving gifts that makes us kin, That lets the light of Heaven in. I dont know what he meant by that, For he was gone as quick as scat. Right up the chimney to his sleigh -He cracked his whip and dashed away. I heard him singing far, up high, His reindeers racing through the sky Then back to bed I went tiptoe know And didnt let That I had seen the strangest sight. That ever happened in the night.
