Show Thursday, Dec. THE GREEN SHEET 8, 1988 M Alma And Katheryn Fjeld Celebrate Golden Wedding Gut My Window tfffc' ;p It has been years since Alan and Katheryn Fjeld were married on December 10, 1938 in Salt Lake, and they have made their home in this area most of the time since then. Ethel Bradford v fifty Katheryn was born in Salt Lake on October 6 ., 1916, the daughter Catherine and of Arthur Syndergaard Frisbey. The older of the family well members remember her birth date because Its no one elses business, but to one such as John, they felt free to voice their thoughts, fears and experiences. And ask questions. A Her working career as a secretary spans from the time the children were old enough to care for themselves until a year ago. Alan and Katheryn are the parents of four children: Jeffery, San Francisco; Linda, Phoenix; Geniel, Salt Lake County and Kathy, San Francisco. They have four grandchildren and two All of the children converged on on residence the Fjeld duel Thanksgiving for the purpose of celebrating the holiday and paying homage to their parents on the golden wedding anniversary. n. Not a one, however, gave John a P.O. box number or address so he could respond to the questioning or to speak back to them of their fears and experiences. Some o' you know, some of you dont, and many of you probably really dont care, but nevertheless, I spend a bit of time at the State' Prison each week and so have seen and experienced many interesting things. first thought was that I would act as middle man, receiving and delivering anonymous letters back and forth, but very quickly I realized that was impossible. a A month or so ago John Larry, a prisoner there and also a member of one of my classes, wrote me a letter telling of changes in his thinking and feeling. Of an entirely different attitude change from negative to positive. Alans hobbies have been gardening and writing poetry, a talent which began in his boyhood. The garden plot has now given way to the flower beds, but the poetry writing continues, as he says "for years I have fiddled with rhyming, With word sounds and meter combining, On subjects mundane, That brought me no fame, But never I thought of I cant do that, for one of the first rules you are required to make, when going into the Prison is, "Nothing in and nothing out." And its a rule I respect. Well, the letter impressed me so much that I shared it with two or three people and, as a result . . . and with Johns permission .. .it was printed in the Green Sheet. ... So all of you who wrote to John Larry, know that he did receive your letters. He cares about problems and wishes he could discuss your questions and fears with you. But with no way to answer, he is helpless. John freely gave his name and number and the results from readers surprised him. For, while he was sharing his thoughts and feelings with me, they also struck a responsive chord in many another heart who read them. So much so that quite a few of you wrote to him. Its your r choice, as it was mine. You wrote to John, he received your letters and he cares, but now its all up to you. and on.
