When organizers settled on the name WestFest 88 for the J line annucJ hullabaloo here, they did s ) because the mere word celebration wasnt ade-- q uate. "We wanted a word that v ould let' people know this was more than just an annual community party," slid WestFest publicist C loria Johnson. It will be a party, but the way WestFest people want to spell it, its PARTY! There will be 24-2- 5 entertainment, a pirade featuring floats, hirses, kids and politinnn-sto- p not cians, although necessarily in that order. Tnere will be ethnic foods of every persuasion, craf; demonstrations, music, kite dances, flying de monstrations and peo-p- i e will jump out of ai planes. .f thats not enough to satisfy the most energetic fes mix in elewns, acts, magic mountainmen, bluegrass music, and fireworks-lot- s of lireworks. said Additionally, Johnson, the event is trying to take on a larger tival-goe- r, community flavor, and includes in its boundaries and Kearns, Magna, Taylorsville. WestFest is sponsored by the West Chamber of Valley Commerce, West Valley City, private citizens and KKAT Country 102 FM. "The primary reason were involved is that we actively pursue any involvement in community-related events and we want to promote community activity and awareness," said John Marks, KKAT program director. "We do have a lot of listeners out in the West Jordan area, and thats part of the reason, but we just like to Valley-We- st get behind community events in our entire listening area.
