Show 5 Thursday, June 23, THE GREEN SHEET 1988 SPORTS Tournament Is Scheduled SOUTH COTTONWOOD. The sixth annual Firecracker Tournament, sponsored by Wendys, will be held next week at the Cottonwood ball park, 5700 South 1300 East, according to Bob Burkett, tournament director. The tournament which was started in 1983 by Wally Peterson, general manager of Wendys and Lonnie Keefer, then University of Utah Coach, was played the first three years at the University of Utah. It was switched in 1986 to Cottonwood when Burkett took over as director. Games on Wednesday will see Granite and Woods Cross open play at 9:30 a.m. with Viewmont and Granger, both of which participated in the State 4A championships, playing at 12 4A noon. State champions Bountiful will then meet Midvale at 3 p.m. with Cottonwood hosting South Sevier at 5:30. All games are played with a time limit, no inning starting later than two hours after the start of the game. There will be a charge of $2 for each days admission. The tournament will have four games on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with either two or three games on the concluding Saturday, July 2. on imift-aumnni- sir II U 7-- 7-- 3 evening. Taylorsville was upset by Orem 8 with Orem taking an early 1 lead and hanging on despite Taylorsville coming back with five runs in the fifth. The loss left Taylorsville, Orem, Hillcrest, 9-- 7-- East, and West all with the records while West Jordan, Bingham, and Granger all were a half game behind with 3 records. , Here is a rundown on the Tuesday night games. In the loss to Orem, Troy Arnold and Travis Parker pitched for the losers who were led in hitting by Parker with a double and Justin Stanley with a home run. Bingham defeated with Chris Granger Butterfield, Brian Warr, and Shane Wilde all pitching for Bingham while Varden Fuller, Shepard, ad Joe Trujillo all threw for the Granger team. Greg Cutler had a double for Bingham with Brian Warr hitting a round tripper. Woods Cross won ove lorteit.
