During this drive a touchdown run by Bobby Mathewson was called back because of a penalty. The Colts increased their lead in the second quarter on an drive, when Mathewson scored from the 20. The point after was missed leaving the score at the half at Mathewson again had a touchdown run nullified by a penalty. A high point of the drive was a pass and run from Chad Fletcher to Brad Sorensen. In the third quarter Cottonwood drove down field and, on a fourth and six from the seven yard line, Fletcher used a fake field goal to gain just over the required yardage. On the next play, Mathewson scored with Matt Jensen making the extra point for a 16-- lead. After Ben Lomond could not move the ball, a pass and run by Brad Sorensen scored the next Colt touchdown and again Jensens kick was good to make it . In the fourth quarter, Mathewson took a Ben Lomond kick at his own 45 and some good broken field running enabled him to get to the Scots line, from where Grayson Blackham scored. Jensens kick was A good making the final score 37-lot of the Cottonwood substitutes played for most of the fourth quarter and Ben Lomond never really threatened. Coach Tom Jones was well pleased with the play of his team and pointed out that they did not have any turnovers until too late in the game when the first unit was not playing. Another unusual aspect of the game, according to Jones, was that Cottonwood did not have to punt during the entire game. Jones thought the kicking of Matt Jensen, on kickoffs, when almost every kick went into the end zone, and on points after, with the 29 yard field goal, showed how well Jensen was putting his foot into the ball. Jones also mentioned that Chad Fletcher was 9x10 in the passing department for 170 yards with Sorensen catching five of these for 136 yards. He felt that his defense got stronger as the game went on and was pleased that his defense twice shut down the much stronger Bonneville team within the ten yard line. The punt defense team recovered two kicks and Mark Johnson, Todd Bean, E. J. Barlocker, and Victor Leal all had good games on defense. In summing up, Coach Meier stated that his team was still struggling offensively because of inexperience, but he feels that they will start establishing a consistent offensive effort and plans to use both Wayne Slaughter and Shay Wyatt at quarterback until such a time as the offense comes into its own. & Pre-Leag- ue A playing two good teams in pass play from quarterback Woolverton, and Bonneville went to the locker room with a 20-- lead. The Spartans came fighting back when Brandon Lundeen blocked a Bonneville kick at the 35 and Mike Shaw recovered it for the Spartan score. Kevin Hansen kicked the extra point. The last score of the game came in the fourth period on a four yard pass from Woolverton to Cooper.
