Show 5 THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, July 23, 1987 Veteran Of The Roads Beware Of Kids In Police Crosswalk, Say Is Recognized By Magna Chamber Eleven-yea- r MAGNA. Doyle Grant, and of county road crews, was given a citation last week by the Magna Chamber of Commerce for work he has done in Magna. Grant came to this area in veteran January of 1984, after working his way up through the ranks, as a district supervisor assistant. Since then he has been responsible for all road repair in this area, and with the recent reorganization in the county is now in charge of everything west of the old D&RG tracks southwest of Kearns. Since he has been in Magna, Grant has resurfaced 8650 West, and 8700 west and most recently cut down the crown and laid asphalt on Buccaneer Drive (8600 West). In addition, 3100 South has been chip sealed, as well as 9180 West and 9200 West up to and including 3500 South to 8400 West. The same process has been used on 8000 West from 4100 South to 2450 South. Grant explained that the process is used on roads in reasonably good condition, and the new oil rejuvenates the oil in the old asphalt which makes the road base last longer. Until recently .Grant was operating with only a half crew. Now he has a full crew with his new responsiblities. Rick Myers is the lead man now, but it was Sam Kastanis who laid down the asphalt on Buccaneer Drive. Other crew members include Danny Martinez and Norm Rushton, general equipment operators; Glen Green, George Eglund, Gary Poulsen, broom operator; Russ Hansen, Mel Chatwin and A1 Johnson who drive 11 wheelers all summer and snow removal equipment in the winter. There are also two seasonal employees, Jack Seibert and George Olsen. Plans for next year call for resurfacing 8900 West and putting overlay on between 2,500 and 3,000 square feet of road. Earmarked for resurfacing is the subdivision near the northwest corner of 8400 West off of 3500 South, the first horseshoe loop west of 8400 West off of 3100 South; and Western Drive, east of 8400 West from 2760 South to Breeze Drive.
