Judge, which had beaten West by 13 just five days earlier, got off to a slow start and were down 15-- 6 in the first quarter Although they rallied to draw within at the half, they were m serious trouble as their leading scorer, Rick Solvason, picked up his third foul halfway through the quarter. Gilbert Maestas scored the first five points of the ballgame on a bucket and a threefer Glaskers basket increased the lead to as Judge was having trouble with an extended West Zone and didnt score until more than four minutes of the quarter had elapsed. The second quarter saw the Bulldogs cut into the lead as they ran off six points to Wests two to come within five and then cut it down to three on Pazells hoop just before the halftime gun. The two teams played evenly during the third quarter which ended with the Panthers maintaining their lead at West went up in the fourth quarter by eight at 3 but a long range bomb by Chris Gardner but two brought Judge to within free throws by Pazell and a hoop by Chris Sonne made it Then Solvason hit a three-poibomb to make it 3 and then less than a minute later hit another to tie the game West then rushed the ball down the court and Jimmy Glasker answered Solvasons charge with a long which coach Jim Yerkovich felt was definitely the turning point of the game, and with less than two minutes to play West increased their lead by hitting on 7x8 free throw attempts was the second state title in the same day os the boys notched a slim edge over runner-uTooele, BTU At BYU It p - PRO o Murray high school captured the goal trophy in both boys and girls L State Swimming held at Brigham Young University Friday and Saturday, the boys crew battling lrom behind in the next to the last event to dip Provo. Our kids played pretty just couldnt get over the hump, stated Kearns basketball coach Kenyon Clark following his teams heartbreaking loss to Skyline Friday. Every time wed get close theyd hit a couple of baskets in a row What made the loss painful was just not the closeness of the score, but the fact it ended the Cougars season. Kearns needed to beat the Eagles then hope that Olympus would beat Cyprus, but, unfortunately, for Cougar fans, neither event came to pass. Even if wed beaten Skyline, Clark explained, Cyprus win over Olympus wouldve put us out of it. Skyline led throughout Fridays game, taking a advantage after only one period of play.
