Students at Valley Crest elementary are enjoying the monthly birthday table hosted by the PTA. The purpose of the project is to let the students know they are important to all of us here at Valley Crest," said spokesman Debbie Crooks Each one matters and we know how important a birthday is to a child, they look forward to it all year. The birthday tab,e is set up the third Thursday of each month. In vitations are given to teachers to hand to children who have a birthday that month, she explained, and students can then bring the invitation with them to lunch to claim their treat - shaped suckers. The students may also choose to eat at the birthday table, set aside for them and decorated for the occasion. The staff are very supportive of the project and we are grateful, she noted. We try to get every child during the year. We combine summer month birthdays, KEARNS. Classes in August with September, June with January and July with February. New students will be celebrated toward the end of the school year. Carol McGee makes the suckers each month, using bright colors, various flavors and cute shapes, said Mrs. Crooks. Gayle Higgins attends the table each month. The activity gives the children an opportunity to celebrate their own important day at school, as well as at home PTA members noted. Well if you havent then dont. Its the beginning of a new year at Kearns and we should all make the resolution to not make the rest of our year a routine. Make every day a day to remember. Attend the basketball games and the swimming and wrestling meets. Kearns is an exciting place, just get In their and find something that doesnt make your school days a routine, make them exciting. This week marks the beginning of league play in the basketball season. These games really count, so come out and support the Cougar basketball teams. There is a girls game today (Thursday) at 3:30, while the boys play tomorrow at 7:30. Wrestling is also alive and kicking at Kearns. There is a wrestling meet today at Olympus at 7:30; dont miss to school. Why? Well, there's the homework thats left undone and our new found freedom is cut after just two short weeks. There are ways to cure this disease. First, get involved with the many activities planned at school for the next week. Tomorrow (Friday) there is a basketball game: Cyprus at Granite, 7:30. Also next week we have Winter Week. With this weather, the week looks very promising. Tuesday there will be ice skating from 6:30 to 9 at the Triad. Wednesday is ski night at Brighton ($5 with your activity card). There is the snow football game Thursday after school, with seniors versus juniors and sophomores. Friday we have a basketball game, Cottonwood at Granite at 7:30, as well as a stomp lasting from 9 to 11. Second, try to forget about yourself. Make someones day by just simply smiling and saying hi. Remember, the best way to feel good about yourself is by making others feel better. Third, relax. Many times the blues are caused by too much stress. Think of it this way: it is almost half over. As the year quickly passes by, enjoy it, were only in high school once. So, before this year comes screeching to an end, become involved, make new friends and ,last but certainly not least, enjoy yourself. Dont forget about the great activities that are planned. After all, theyre not for us. it.
