It was there he found army life wasnt all bad It was m Germany during the war that he met Else Anna Gertrude Mane Kersten, a young miss who eventually became his bride He was the oldest of 14 children 12 of that group are still living and It took a lot of persuasion to do that, however, for when Jim return- They are Clara Sylvia, California; Helen Walker, Pleasant Grove; Thora Chadwick, American Fork; ed to the U. S her home, however, and upon arriving the two were married on Feb 1, 1949 and they made their home in Bingham Canyon until 1958 They have lived in Herriman since that time Iola Goff and Dent Goff died while still children. Jims father died in 1951 and his mother lived until 1984. The honored man is a member of the Herriman Lions club, the AARP and theDAV Missionaries His children are Ralph H , Salt Lake; Max K. and wife Martha, Cottonwood Heights and Rex C. and wife Lisa of Riverton. The honored mans two grandchildren are Dustin Whitney and Cheyenne Goff Thursday, May Mark Golden Wedding Day The fiftieth wedding anniversary of Everett Holladay H and Verna Betteridge Belcher was celebrated on April 19th when they were guests of honor at a family dinner held in the Westin Hotel Utah, Presidents Room. The two were married on May 4, 1936 in Vancouver, Washington and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 29, 1936. Verna was born in Grouse Creek, Box Elder country, Utah, a daughter of James William and Emily Ness Betteridge, one of nine children. Her siblings, all living are Alpha, Olive, Eileen, Muriel, Jessie, Norma, June and one brother, Bryce. She grew up in Orem, on her fathers farm until 16 years of age She attended Lincoln high where she played the clarinet in the band and orchestra. She was the champion high jumper of Utah county at that time. Her family came to this area and she graduated from Granite high and was then employed by Mountain Bell for six years. During this time she lived in Mill Creek and Union 1st, 43rd, 5th and 14th LDS wards. She has worked in the presidencies of the womens church organizations, taught for many years and is now church ward librarian. She and her husband were building engineers for the Willow Creek stake for over 11 years. Everett was born in Spring Lake, Utah, the son of Garence LeRoy and Laura Rozell Holladay Belcher, one of three children, two of whom are living. His brother is Monte and his deceased sister was named Mary. The two of them lived in Idaho for a short while and then returned back to Salt Lake. Everett says he learned to work early in life, raising chickens and turkeys and also hauling coal from Castle Gate, Utah mines. He worked as a security guard for the LDS Chruch for 10 years and was a steward for Hotel Utah for another 10 years. When the two of them married he was working for Williamette Paper Mills in Camas, Washington. ps-V- J w He has held many positions for the LDS Church, includmg scoutmaster, counselor in the bishopric, twice was bishop, high councilor, and counselor to the stake presidency of the East Jordan Stake. Currently he is serving in the high priest group leadership and is chairman of the Cottonwood Creek Stake recreational property The two of them served an LDS mission to Nauvoo where he started the brick molding and other crafts for the Nauvoo Restoration Verna gave guided tours at the Lucy Mack Smith home. They served there for years and while they were gone their children built them an entirely new home as a surprise for the parents The two of them are the parents of nine children and one deceased one The are Jerne B (Mrs Lee), Montgomery, Alabama, D Kay (Mrs John J ) Bollwinkel, Sugar House, Holla Rae (Mrs Gary) Evans, Sandy; Emylee Mae (Mrs. Ken) Patterson, Pocatello, Vernon H , Union; Dee Alan, West Jordan; David Paul, West Jordan, Lou Dene (Mrs Kevin) Hunt, Santa Paula, California and Bradley Tye, Placer-villCalifornia They have 45 grandchildren and one e, great-grandchi- Mother sDay Steve Carling The north area of Buenos Aires, Argentina will be the scene where Steve Carling will serve an LDS mission. farewell meeting will honor him m the Murray 24th ward, 775 E. A Three Fountains Drive, at on May 18th 10 50 am The future missionary is the son of Mr. and Mrs William E Poulson, Murray and an open house will be held at 6 00 to 8 00 p m at 5200 So 820 East on Saturday May 17th He will enter the training center on June 4th Steve is a graduate of Murray high and attended Brigham Young University this past year Grandmother is Mrs. Farrel Poulsen of Salt Lake Jon Carling FOR Jon Carling is returning home from filling an LDS mission to Quito, Ecuador and a homecoming meeting will be held in the Murray 24th ward, 775 East Three Fountains Drive, at 10 50 a m on Sunday, May 11th The returning missionary is the son of Mr. and Mrs William E. Poulson of Murray and an open house will be held at 12 30 p m. at 5200 So 820 East, on that same day. Jon is a graduate of Murray high where he was student body president and will return to his studies at Brigham Young University this fall.
