Names of students on the high honor roll for the second term have been announced at Cyprus high. Juniors with straight As are Teece Anderson, Gayna Chapman, Jay Higley, Kristan Kennard and David Kenner. Sophomores earning the 4.0 GPA are Troy Blanchard, Lara Cheng, Ember Eskelson and Emily Taylor. Academy Park Reflections contest will be introduced at a PTA meeting to be held at 7 oclock tonight (Thursday). Winning in the visual arts division were Jason Brown, Craig Armstrong, Kristine Hoecherl, Andrew Crockett, Nicole Crockett, Challi Oreno, Tyler Welch, Rachel Young and Jennifer Young. Honorable mention went to Randy La Munyan and Gerald Hansen. Wendy - KEARNS. Students at West Kearns elementary are being offered an opportunity to participate in a series of art workshops, beginning today (Thursday) and continuing throughout the next month. The youngsters will attend a class each week, with 24 projects available to choose from, according to Jerry Pulsipher, principal. The classes will be taught by teachers assisted by instructional personnel. The entire student body will be included in the projects, with special education students integrating with other groups, he noted. Classes including weaving, paper flowers, clay sculpture, boondoggle, puppets, calligraphy, linoleum block prints, string design, woodwork, ceramics, yarn mosaics, counted cross stitch, perspective drawing, pom pon chicks, crewel embroidery, Cabbage Patch and Care Bear ornaments, straw weaving, murals, paper mobiles, burnt match art, copper etching, rock painting, tole painting and crocheting. In region drill team competition last week, our Spinnakers came across strong with an overall third place. The Spinnies will contuinue to prove Cyprus excellence in the state competition in March. Students submitted a record number of entries, totaling 300, according to a school spokesman. The project was under the direction of La Rene Carlson, individual developand Janet ment commissioner, Falliv, Reflections chairman. Students were invited to watch a video about the Statue of Liberty, to color and cut out a mask of the statue. The contest followed the theme, From Liberty's View. A statue was placed outside each classroom and as entires were received, the student's name was placed on the statue. A party was held for the room having the most entries. Entries may be viewed at the school during school hours. Winners will display or perform their entries during the Founders Day program to be held at 7 oclock tonight (Thursday), with all members of the community being invited to attend.
