What do I write of? Oh, I write of the people I meet, but well disguised I hope. For some reason I meet many people from different segments of our society and I love them all. They each ha ve a different life style and tell me about different aspects of life. So I tell you. What do I write about? The joys of life. My sons ...my sons. On, yes, I write of them, their beautiful wives and those three grandchildren of mine that are simply marvelous. (You mean two girls yours arent???) Idhave chosen those so and to do the chance had had for my sons if I sons were smart that fact in the my glory pickers. Wbat I Yup, I write of what I know. know. My personal philosophy of life. And though I cant put it under any name (and wouldn't even try) its real. Oh, how real it is, for it changed me from a bitter, frustrated woman into a happy one. A free one. Free of all foolish facades. Its let me let know myself . . . and what's more that. about write I be me myself. Yeah, I have written about Gram many times. She left this life many years ago, but, see, that doesnt matter. What does matter is that she made such a deep impact on my life that I still feel her influence and always shall. She became part of me. I write of things that make me angry. And that can be anything from the dog next to the door using my lawn as a rest-stoLaw for letting some murderer or rapist out of prison so they can repeat their little tricks. ... ' and Sue Robinson; Carrie Bissell, Shirley Oberg, Joan Fisher and Chris Hobson. Also, Mary Jean Waddell, Helen . I write about ? And, when it gets right down to the I find I write about what I know. And I write of silly things. How, one late evening, I looked down and saw that J had (in my haste) put on one red shoe and one white one. Like another put on a pantsuit day I suddenly found that I hadhad been wonder(the pant part) backward and fit didnt right. Quite they all why morning ing dumb, lagree, but again, thats what happened. the same I write, at times, of my sorrows sorrows as yours. A loved one who dies too soon. Far too soon. I write about Grams home that burned, so slowly, so relentlessly. I write about the land that I live on and love. Land that I called mine long before it legally was. Land that has belonged to no one else but the Indians and I can get out the Title that tells how the U.S. Government deeded the land where my home sits to my son s great-grea- t grandfather. I write of a small hillside that is mine that has never been used and shall never be used as long ;; as I own it. It is overgrown with sagebrush . . . V sagebrush that has been there before the ; Pioneers and I shall let it stay for ever, too. ... I write of how I feel as I watch the sun come up over the Wasatch Mts. to bring light to my world. And I tell of the wonder of the red sky as that same sun sinks to rest over the Oquirrhs in the west. I write about the ants who scurry back and forth like mad on a wonderful summer day and who, instead of making me feel guilty as I loll on the hammock, make me pity them for not having enough sense to stop theirhurry and take time to appreciate Gods great world. So - Walkers Note Golden I write about? Whats real, ions, my surprises, my foolishness, my hopes, my mistakes, my sorrows and my joys. I write about myself and then I find . . . strange, strange, strange . . . that, at the same time, Ive also written about you. Owen and Letha are the parents of four daughters and two sons. I spent the night at the Y.M.C.A. It It had thrived until the was a restless night, with visions of old. The partners became sons were not able to keep the hoagie sandwiches, apple juice, business profitable, and there was a gradual decline until 1910, when the decision was made to sell out. At first the family had tried to sell the company with its equipment, copyrights, and inventories, but there were not takers. Eventually they sold the machinery to a printer across town, and the building to Tony Bentino, who opened the delicatessen and sandwich shop. I asked her about Mr. Stein, the fellow who had written to my greatgrandmother in 1904. She vaguely remembered him as an eccentric editor who was fired after driving one of the most successful writers to another publisher. She guessed that Stein was probably the one responsible for losing my journals. Eventually there was nothing more to be said about the journals, or Sears and Chadwick. I thanked Mrs. Wharton for her time and the apple juice, and left. As I walked down the path to the street, I thought how foolish I had been to come all the way to Pennsylvania on such a thin bit of evidence. It occurred to me that I might try calling all the steins in the telephone book asking if they had any manuscripts lying around that had been removed from a floudering publishing house by an irresponsible grandfather. It was a dumb Idea. brownstone apartments, and red brick mansions. Behind the Philadelphia scenes, I could see the pleading face of my grandmother, begging me not to let the family down, telling me not to come home without the journals of Dan Storm. Gripped tightly in her fist was the Stein letter, our familys first piece of real hope in 75 years that the journals had not been destroyed or lost forever. But I just couldnt think of what I ought to do next. I kept thinking that I had tried, and failed. There was nothing else to do. The next day, for the lack of something better to do, I decided to see some of Philadelphia's historical attractions. There was no sense in just turning around and heading back home after I had come so far. I visited Ben Franklin's house, saw the Liberty Bell and the statue of William Penn. Grandmas pleading face kept flashing before my eyes. I was miserable. About noon I headed back over to Street to Tonys Warsaw Delicatessen, with nothing more in mind than to buy another hoagie sand- BAKED DAILY Wisconsin LDS Mission For Gatherum David V.
