Hopes for avoiding the Valley League playoffs for a berth in the state tournament faded for Granger as the club lost four of five outings during the week. The only bright spot for Coach Paul Haynies team was a 7 win of a suspended game with Kearns Friday night. Kearns, however, bounced right back to beat Granger On July 23 Tooele captured a 10-- 0 victory. Cyprus claimed a 15-- 5 win on the 24th and Monday night Bingham recorded a 12-- 7 victory into seventh place in the Western Division. Granger is slated to host Granite tomorrow (Friday) at 6. GffiOOHSF BACK to SCHOOL FABRICS Aug. 1st to Aug. 7th Billy Lambourne singled in the winning run for Taylorsville in the bottom of the seventh last Tuesday. A single by Wayne Arroyo led things off then an error and a walk set things up for Lambourne, who ended the day with a double and a home run to add to his game winner. Arroyo was the winning pitcher, striking out II and giving up just five hits to keep Binghams offense in check. Bingham got on the board, scoring runs in the top of the first on a pair of walks and singles by Brian Orr and Dan Coy. Taylorsville responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Dave Trevino reached on an error, was doubled to third by Lambourne and scored on a sacrifice fly by Doug Clements. Taylorsville moved in front with two runs in the fifth. Trevino reached on an error then Lambourne blasted his roundtripper. Bingham tied it in the top of the sixth as Pat Newbold doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball. Taylorsville ended up with six hits, half of those off the bat of Lambourne. Cyprus 15, Granger 5 Cyprus scored 10 runs in the second and third innings to force an early end to the holiday contest. The game got off to a good start for Granger when Mike Wilding blasted a two-ru- n homer in the first inning, but it was Cyprus who would have something to savor after three. Four straight walks after coming between base hits by Alan Inskeep and Kirk Woodruff produced six runs in the second. In the third Woodruff belted a grand slam after an Allen Tygesen single, an error and a walk. With two out in the fourth Woodruff chased home his seventh and eighth runs of the day with a two-ru- n single. Mark Quintana had a base hit as Cyprus wrapped things up with three in the fourth. Granger tor a pair in the fourth on two walks and base hits by Haynie and Anderson and in the fifth DeLange singled, advanced on a base blow by Lund and scored on a fielders choice. In that one Weidauer had four RBIs in a 3x3 effort that included a homer. Hunter handed Kearns an 3 setback, but in the decisive game Kearns beat Hunter 2 with Delrio again on the mound. He also had a double. The Little. League Western Regionals in San Bernardino, Calif, is the destination of the Kearns International Little who captured the League state title Saturday. That tournament opens Wednesday. Kearns defeated Cedar National 12-- 7 as Danny Delrio and Travis Roberts stroked homers to go along with a single, double and homer by Travus Weidauer. Travis Wlakdo added a double. That win came on the heels of an 18-- 0 victory over that same team. Delrio hurled a and went 4x4 with three homers. Weidauer went 4x5 with a homer two singles and a double. Jake Gustafson had a homer and a single, Cody Littlewood two doubles, Roberts a homer and a single and Brandon Wooley a double. In the district tournament Delrio pitched Kearns to a 0 win over 10, 7-- As-Giant- s. ls Tooele In the wrap-u- p of the suspended contest Granger was able to hang on for the win that was provided when Kyle DeLanges two-ru- n triple snap-ppe- d a 7 tie back on July 18. Granger had scored three runs in the first, three more in the second and one in the fifth. Kearns answered back with' four in the second and three in the fourth. Neither team scored Friday night. However, Kearns ended the drought in the first frame of the regular-schedule- d game Friday when Rick Wiles circled the bases. Kearns added four more in the second on a pair of errors, a Jim Duckworth single and doubles by Gary Bronson and Wiles. 2 3-- 3 In the fifth Kearns got an insurance run on a Rick Medina base hit after a walk and an error. Joe Quintana limited Granger to a lone run until the seventh when he needed relief help from Rick Hodges. Granger scored in the second on two errors and two walks. Base hits by Haynie and Lund sandwiched around an error scored two runs in the seventh. again until the fifth when Haynie singled and Kevin Anderson stroked a double, the latter advancing on a passed ball and scoring on a groun-dou- t. Davis scored Taylorsvilles fourth run in the top of the second, stroking out a double, stealing third and coming home on an overthrow. Taylorsville added two runs in the top of the third. Doug Clements singled, stole second and third and scored on a passed ball. A walk then a single by Kevin Williams brought the second run in. Midvale finally scored in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Bagley singled, stole second and third then came home on a Derek Butterfield base hit. Taylorsville cancelled that run out in the top of the sixth as Davis singled, stole second and scored on a single by Dave Trevino. Midvale finished the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Singles by Kent Hoskison and Butterfield drove one in, John Hansen singled in the second and scored for the third. Taylorsvilles seven runs came off a like number of hits. Midvale, meanwhile, had nine hits. Shane Patrick was the winning pitcher, striking out four.
