We started way before Christmas, remarked the teacher, and we got it finished before school gets out. The map is large enough for the entire class of 31 students to stand in. The project began with students Each student helped with the project, with some assistance from Mrs. Maxwell, her husband, Rod, and three parents, Mr. and Mrs, Palmer and Mrs. Alicia Diaz. The map helps in giving children a better concept of the size, shape and location of each state, the teacher observed. They can easily identify and learn state capitals and can play map games which add interest to the subject and also make good learning tools, she noted. drawing maps of each state, to scale. The various pieces were then taped together and holes were punched between the borders of the varioous states. The maps were drawn to an excact scale, and that,. said Mrs. Maxwell, was the hardest part of the entire project. However, patience and persistence prevailed and finally the huge map was spread out on the school playground. The next step was to spray paint through the holes, making a picture of the map when the papers were removed. Students took yellow chalk to draw the dots together, forming the completed map, ready for painting. Utah c pageant to be held June 8, at the Hotel. The pageant is the official state preliminary for the national pageant which will be held in California in August. All contestants will compete in judges interviews, sportswear and formal wear and will be judged on poise, personality and appearance.
