Its Pride Week at Kearns high, and members of the entire community are being invited to join in activities designed around the theme Proud of KearnsKHS. A parade will be held Monday evening to kick off the event, leaving Kearns junior high at 6 p.m. and proceeding along 5400 South and up Cougar Lane to the high school. Included will be bands and groups from junior high schools, as well as the high school band, twirlers, floats and entries by various KHS clubs. The theme Unity in the Community will be used throughout the week, with students spending time Tuesday painting and doing yard work for senior citizens in the area. The annual spring run-of- f will take place Wednesday, with proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy pro- gram. Were inviting people to run so others may walk, said counselor Elaine Burrows. Categories for both men and women will be offered in the following age groups: elementary, junior high, high school, and a walking division. fees will be $5, while registration the day of the race costs $6. The run will begin at 4 p.m. covering five kilometers. Mile markers will be placed along the route. Medallions will be presented to winners in each category, ribbons to those placing second through fifth and trophies to the first place man and woman. The dance will begin at 8 and the cost will be $10 a couple This is the last formal dance of the year, so lets go out with a bang by making Junior Prom a very memorable occasion. Elections for next years student body officers and cheerleaders are now at a climax. Candidates have been campaigning all week and they will have the opportunity to present themselves and their plans for the coming year in a final elections assembly scheduled for today. During this assembly, candidates running for office will introduce themselves and will also undergo a brief debate with their opponents. Cheerleader hopefuls will also be introduced and they will show their skills in various routines and stunts. After the assembly, voting for next years officers and cheerleaders will take place. Voting will also take place tomorrow during lunch. Tuesday will be unity in the community day. Activities for this day will include members of the student council painting and renovating a house within the Kearns community. Wednesday the annual spring runoff will take place. The entry fee for this race will be $5, with proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. There will be nine categories in both the male and female divisions of the race. People from all areas and all age groups are encouraged to enter this race its for a worthy cause. Area businessmen will be invited to a luncheon Thursday at KHS. This activity is designed to expose the businessmen to the cleanest school in Utah. This exposure will also allow them to see the positive activities which occur within the walls of KHS. A talent show, featuring talented members of the KHS student body, will conclude Pride Week activities on Friday. Tryouts for all those wishing to participate in the talent show will take place today and tomorrow after school. Pride Week is a great time for all of us at KHS to show pride in ourselves, our community and our school. Now its time for you to hear, Who the leaders are for the coming yerr. Students and parents gathered in the GHS auditorium Monday afternoon curiously and anxiously awaiting the election results. First, this years cheer and song leaders and Sir Lancer were escorted down the aisle by their fathers and by his mother (as in the case of Sir Lancer, Tom Kimball). Adviser Meg Bleazzard told some things about each one during the walk up to the stage. When each one had been recognized, the varsity cheerleaders and senior song leaders began to annouce next years squads. Each one was introduced with a little rhyme before coming from behind the curtain, jumping and screaming. Next years varsity cheerleaders are Madaline Burr, Debbie Hiatt, Nilsa Feliciano, Michelle Hill, Lisa Westburg and Jana Huff. The new songleading squad will consist of Debbie Hammer, Jolynn Bolton, Michelle Foote, Chris Johnson, Tiffany Johnson and Shirene Hensley. The new Sir Lancer is Kevin Dunbar. Next, it was the student body officers turn.
