Whitaker and 'Sawyer' On Stage At Rolling Meadows GRANGER. The musical producwill be Tom Sawyer presented at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Rolling Meadows tion elementary. Pam Budge is directing the production as part of a career ladders project. All rehearsing has been done outside of school hours, the director noted. About 165 children from the third and fourth grades are participating in the show, she said. Lead parts are played by Brett Maylet as Tom Sawyer, Brandy MAGNA. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be presented by students of Brockbank junior high tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday in the school auditorium. Curtain time both nights is 7:30. Lemuel Harsh is directing the musical, which tells the story of Joseph who was sold in Egypt as recounted in the Book of Genesis in the Bible. The story is told with different types of modern music and dance, the director explained. We combine the old with the new in props, movement and costumes, showing Josephs conflict could well be found today in a different setting, but with the same solution, he said. This style of theater, the combining of old and new for a timeless effect, was conceived by a German polaywright Berthold Brecht. You will simply see a group of players showing you an epic story through theater conventions. Joseph was first written as a music concert for the student graduation of a parochial school in England. It was later adapted for the stage and has played professionally in Washington, D.C., New York and London, he observed. Music will be under the direction of Kathy Jensen, with Elaine Whitman as accompanist. Heidi Whitman is handling choreography; Boyce Sanderson and Brandon Bech, technical production. About 1,700 grade school students will see the production in rehearsal, Harsh observed. Cast members include, as the 12 sons of Jacob, Ryan Spanton as Reuben; Dan Martinsen, Simeon; Creer as Aunt Polly and Kory Luker as Mark Twain. Merrily Thorne is the accompanist. Parents have assisted with costuming. I feel the students have gained a lot of through this experience. The goal was to offer an enrichment program to the school and to help the participants to and have an develop enjoyable experience in the performing arts. It has been fun for all of us, Miss Budge concluded. Kay South Kearns Pupils Staging Play 2 Times KEARNS.
