Show Thursday, November 6B THE GREEN SHEET 1, 1984 Sclhoolls Hillside 'Hawking' Shirts CYPRUS CAVALCADE by Melisa Catten sary victory. The team will play at today (Thursday) against Alta on the KHS court. Support is obviously essential for the team to advance to state and, thus, your attendance at the remaining volleyball games is crucial. The state cross country meet was held last week and, out of 80 participants from around Utah, Christy Chidester placed fifth and Brad Tiffany placed 29th. Both of these individuals felt comfortable with their performance and are looking forward to the spring track season. Congratulations to Julie Thompson who won the name tag collecting contest last week during Sadie Hawkins. Congratulations also to the senior powder puff basketball team which defeated the combined juniorsophomore team by a score of Although the juniors and sophomores were sorely disappointed, the seniors assured them that someday theyd be seniors, too. The Sadie Hawkins dance was particularly successful Friday, with a record number of people attending the traditional event. A special thanks should be extended to Coach (Reverend) Robertson who performed the shotgun wedding ceremony. The KHS concert choir will participate in the Veterans Day concert on Wednesday at the University of Utah. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. and feature the combined choruses of the Granite School District. The varsity football team played the final game of the year last week, completing one of the most heartbreaking seasons at KHS in years. It was not, however, the teams record that was heartbreaking, but rather, the teams inability to become victorious, despite the valiant, whole-hearte- d effort which the team constantly displayed. The guys played their hardest and often came close to victory, but in a matter of seconds, a seemingly inevitable victory would be taken away. This was truly one of the most encouraging seasons in years. The record of the 198 team fails to reflect the vast improvements and progress made within the KHS football program. This was a rebuilding season for the team and KHS fans should be proud of this years team. The team is obviously coming closer and closer to victory and, according to one prediction, KHS should be one of the top teams in the region within two years. There is presently talk of moving KHS to Region Three. The volleyball team is still in the running for state tournament action. The team must, however, be victorious in its three remaining games in order to advance to a state berth. A victory over Hillcrest in last weeks game would have guaranteed the team a place in the state tournament, but due to the absence of a full team, injuries and a lack of support (only 10 KHS spectators attended the game, whereas the Hillcrest stands werre filled with spectators), the team failed to attain the neces 11-- ALLAN C. RUSHTON Is fund-raise- Pirates Congratulations, sophomores. The sophomore football team ended its season undefeated, wiping out Olympus last week 36-- What more can I say? The jayvee team played a super game, but was defeated 18-Olympus also overpowered the varsity team by a score of 23-- although the guys put out a great effort. Well, the football season is now over for the Pirates. You know final scores often dont tell the whole story. This year our guys really give it their all. They worked hard and did their best and were proud of them. Way to go, Pirates. The girls volleyball team is currently in second place behind Skyline. Our Lady Pirates lost to the Eagles last week, but quickly recovered with a winning match against Cottonwood. Nice job, gals. The next set will be played today (Thursday) at Cyprus when the Pirates will be challenged by the Granger Lancers at 3:30. Tuesday the girls will travel to Olympus. This game will start at 3:30 also. I wish you well, Buccaneers. Heres a reminder for you. The wrestling season is just around the corner, so all of you muscle-bounguys who are interested should con d tact Coach Hennefer about eligibility as soon as possible. Everyone who entered VICAs Big Buck contest be sure to bring your entry in by tomorrow, the last day of judging. Good luck. The Cyprus Halloween stomp will be held tomorrow in the boys gym. Our talented drama department will be staging the play Our Town tonight, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday at 8 oclock. The cost is $2.50. Theyve put a lot of time into this production and it promises to be first rate. Dont miss it. November usually marks the time for Song n Yell preparations, but with all of the arguments surrounding Song n Yell, this great Pirate treasure is in danger of being permanently buried. You, however, can help save it. This month the executive council will be conducting a student vote on whether we should rescue Song n Yell or let it die. Pirates, Im urging you all to vote on this important issue, Yes which will affect not only us, but all future shipmates as well. . r, . techniques, and will also drop-ropresent Gizmo the Robot.
