This cannot be done Allan Rushton with Democrat Age , 3878 So. 5200 West. am a lifelong resident of the West Valley area. I am married to Diane Abraham and we have three sons and one daughter. I attended Cyprus high school and have a B.A. in social sciences from Brigham I for the State am making firm commitments in three areas: open government, education and environmental responsibility. Our founding fathers created the legislat ive branch as the major point of access for the public into our government. Open hearings, open caucauses and open debate at the point which all otherpartsof government must go for guidelines and finances, are necessary for a free society Behind closed doors is no place to conduct public business or spend tax dollars education is an investment in Utah's most valuable resource. We must continue the traditions of pro- viding the best possible op- portunities for our families at all levels of education. An investment in litah's most valuable natural resource is the key to solving long term economic problems. The use of Utahs natural resources to secure economic development and security is necessary but we must always remember that we are responsible to ourselves and to future generations to preserve the values of our traditions and the quality of our natural setting District 51 feel governinvolvement should be reduced to the lowest possible level. I feel more equitable solutions must be sought to lower the tax burden for both citizens and industries. There is a tremendous need to find solutions for educational problems. The quality of education must be upgraded and the monies appropriated must match true fund requirements and be used productively. Our courts should accept responsibility for effectively prosecuting and sentencing criminals and existing laws must be more strictly enforced for citizen protection. Senior citizens with fixed incomes need protection from undue tax burdens and inflationary trends. Throughout my life I have been involved in community and religious affairs and have maintained political awareness. As your legislator, I feel with your help and input we can find solutions to the problems which face us as a state today. Jeff McOmie ndidates lor and with most of the legislators and can work in harmony with them. While I was the mayor I was elected to serve as the president of the League of Cities and Towns, and served the National Finance Committee. As a member of the State Tax Commission, I worked with all other tax for the states to get trucking industry, truckers can now travel the whole U.S. and not have to pay each state for full license. I believe laws and issues that affect upholding of our principles of quality education. Great Salt Lake flooding will again be an issue in the January Legislative session. State government must continue to bear the major burden of flood control, however, the lakes bordering counties should help share in the planning costs and some remedial control efforts. (1) Population growth of Granite School District is growing very rapidly and the demand for more and better education intensifies each year. I will work for more schools, smaller class size, teacher salary increases, by better allocation of funding. (2) Many workers in our area are laid off and out of work. I will work to put them back on the job instead of on welfare rolls. (3) Many residents in our area are retired and I will work to see that their fixed incomes are not eroded away with increasing tax burdens. Flomt Opem g Scm 5662 So.
