Community Calendar Editor CO Green Sheet Newspapers P.O.Box 7)87 Murray, Utah 84107 PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN A OF WORKING PARENTS will be of- fered by the County Recreation Dept, at the Kearns Recreation Center, 5670 So. 4800 West. Latch Key is a program of before and after school care, explained Mike Killpack, director of the Kearns facility. Fox Hills and Bacchus elementary schools are going into split sessions this year, he said, with children in school from 7 a.m. to noon or from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. The center will be open from 6 a.m. to noon for those on afternoon sessions, after which children will be bused to school. Children attending morning sessions will be bused to the center and cared for until their parents can pick them up. A recreational program is planned each day, including swimming, skating, arts and crafts and sports, along with other activities, Killpack said. The cost will be $3.25 per day per child. Those interested may call Mr. Killpack or Martha Bindshedler, for more information. Thirty to 40 children will be enrolled for each session. Children PERFORMANCES BY CHILDREN ENROLLED in the Intensive Course of Dance offered by Ballet Wests Christensen Academy will be offered on Aug. 10 and 11 at the UofU Dance Building, Room 208. The performance will signal the end of the program for talented students over age 13. On Aug. 10 the program will be presented at 2 p.m. The Aug. 11 performance is scheduled on Aug. 11. There is no admission charge. ASTRONOMY CLASSES FOR YOUNG ADULTS will be presented at Hansen Planetarium Monday through Aug. 10. Aimed at youths the classes will focus on age the solar system, evolution of the stars, satellites and celestial motion. The class will be held each afternoon during the week. Today (Thursday) the John Fisher jazz group will perform. Tomorrows entertainment will be offered by the Ed Pratt Band, a contemporary group. Mondays concert will be by the Salt Lake Chamber Ensemble. The Doodles Mime Company will entertain on Tuesday and the JensenWoodbury classical guitar duo is scheduled Wednesday. THE UTAH SYMPHONY will present a classic Broadway repertoire tomorrow (Friday) through Sunday, with noted pops conductor Norman Leyden directing and Shirley Nanette serving as guest soloist. A Gershwin medley will highlight the program. Fridays concert will be held at Symphony Hall, beginning at 8 p.m. The Saturday concert is scheduled at Snowbird at 5 and Sundays will be held at the Park Meadows Golf Course. Leyden, music director of the Seattle Symphony, directed the Utah Symphony in a pops concert in 1982 to enthusiastic reviews. Shirley Nanette has appeared as a guest soloist and in concert throughout the western U. S. and Canada and on commercial and public television. ROBERT REDFORD WILL HOST THE UTAH SYMPHONY at Sun- dance Ski Resort as part of the Sundance Summer Classic on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the base of the ski resort. The popular Broadway musical Annie will open tonight (Thursday) at8:30inMurraypark. The Murray Arts Councils annual production will be presented through Wednesday, except Sunday, on a stage that has been constructed adjacent to Parkside school (451 E. Vine). A cast of about 60 will perform to orchestral accompaniment directed by Kendeil Nielsen. Tickets for the production are on sale at Murray City Hall and Day Murray Music during daytime hours. Gates will open for those with tickets at 7 p.m. Other tickets, if available, will go on sale at the site at 7:45.
