A general PTA meeting and sixth grade program will be held at 7 oclock tonight (Thursday) at David Gourley elementary. The meeting will include election of officers and announcement of winner in the Reflections contest. PTA officers will accept a check from the Modern Woodmen. Students have been conducting a paper drive since November, collecting a total of $858.50, explained teacher Arva Miller. The organization mat-- . ched the funds raised during March, and will present a check for $525 to the PTA. What are the motives of those incorporators who don't even live in Magna? They want us to incoporate, but they don't want to live here. Why? The incorporators complain about our being annexed against our will to another city. Why are they doing that to the Copperton people? We have nothing to gain and everything to lose by incorporating. The students have been studying the ecology and recycling projects and the paper drive has helped them to understand the concepts, she said. Students have also collected cereal coupons which have been used to obtain a disc drive. The paper drive and coupon drive will be continued, she added. Winners in the Reflections contest include Troy Whitaker, first place in music, with Douglas Farr, second. In the literature division, Nathan Chai was the winner from the primary grades. Winners from the intermediate grades were Scott Monson, first; Tony Hull, second; Debra Waddell, third; Kathy Haidle, honorable mention. In visual arts, Katie Stevens won the first place, Samuel Anderson, second; Brandy Alysse Sttenhamer, third. Leslie Chapman was chairman, Chloe McPhee is individual development chairman. Second grade students and PTA officers at South Kearns elementary will host a bake sale tomorrow (Friday). Tickets will be sold throughout the day at the school office and the cupcakes may be picked up after school. The second graders have been studying units on business, accounting, advertising and the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. The poject is designed to reinforce the concepts learned and proceeds will go to the restoration fund.
