A dozen girls, including many who led their teams into state tournaments, have been named to the Green Sheets 1983-8Honor Basketball Squad. The squad includes a solid blend of size and quickness. Eight of the nine Green Sheet area schools are represented and five of those teams made the tournament fields in their 3A and 4A divisions. The squad also includes three repeaters, each exceeding the expectations they had launched with outstanding junior, and in some cases sophomore, campaigns. There are two juniors, ironically from the same team, Olympus. Singled out as the Most Valuable Player was Murray high center Kelly McFalls, who was listed on last seasons Honor Squad. A dominating player, she scored 22 points per game and averaged 15 rebounds. Her season total included 124 offensive boards. She also averaged two assists and 2 Vi steals per contest. She connected on 42 percent of her field goal attempts, despite drawing double and triple coverage. McFalls was also an Academic selection and was the leading scorer in the Cerebral Palsy game. Another repeater off last years squad and the leading scorer among the Honor Squad members is Cyprus highs Ann Brady: Also a Cerebral Palsy game performer, she scored 4 . points per game from her forward position. She averaged five rebounds, two steals and three assists. Leading tough Region Two in scoring this season, was Kearns high standout Debbie Cedarstrom. 'A three-yea- r star for the Cougars, she hit 19 points per contest and still dished off for six assists to teammates per game. She was also a defensive factor. She was listed as a starter on last years Honor Squad. Sena Cook captained Judge to a school record 18 victories, fourth place in state and an unbeaten season in Region Six. A Cerebral Palsy performer and Academic she scored 14.1 points per game, averaged 4.3 assists and 6.7 24.5 r, rebounds as the teams point guard. Rounding out the starting five is six-fojunior center Andrea Wright of Olympus. She was in double digits for the young Titans in both scoring and rebounding with an identical 10.3 average. She hit 45 percent from the field and was an intimidator on defense. Taylorsville highs top performer was senior forward Korine Ewell. She set school records for rebounding with 188 (9.4 per game) and for a single game with 16 against Bingham. She also averaged 7.5 points and had only 15 turnovers in 20 games. A young Cottonwood high team gained a lot from the senior leader- ot ship of Lisa Cuthbert. Cuthbert scored 13.4 ppg. and had eight rebounds and two assists. Her play was a big factor in the team making the state tournament field , The state record holder in the high jump had a big impact on the Granger high program. Tammy Olsen was a zone buster with an accurate outside shot from the foot range. She scored an average of 10 points per game and her leaping ability paid off on the boards. Results of Murray Aquatic Team members competing in the Junior Olympic Short Course competition in Springville last week have been announced. The Frye won the vault, Lona Miller the bars, Kris Collings the beam and Teresa Ekker the floor. All are from Cougars Claim Gymnastics Win KEARNS. Stephanie Kirkham and Wendy Walter combined to lead win over Kearns to a 280.15-146.- 5 Taylorsville in a regional gymnastics meet Thursday. The Kirkham lass was the winner comof the compulsory petition and the Walter girl topped the optional field. Compulsory bars and beam went to Claudine Millet of Taylorsville, while the vault and floor was won by Kirkham. Corey Barrett and Justin Weidauer combined for 25 points as Kearns Rec moved a step closer to defending its crown in the State AAU tournament for boys 11 and under. Sparkplug was the role filled by Laurie Johnson at Murray high. She averaged 10 points and nine rebounds per game. Her greatest skill was passing. She had 40 assists and 32 steals for the season. The other junior on the team was Olympus highs Jana Parker who led her team in assists and steals with 41 and 35 while averaging 8.9 points per contest. Her return, along with that of Wright, is being eagerly anticipated by Coach Linda Mayne. played both guard and forward. Quickness was the forte of Cyprus guard Bambi Preston. The guard was a defensive specialist and scored seven points per game. She led her team with five assists and had two steals and two rebounds. Barb Eckroth was the leading rebounder for the Judge team, averaging 7.5 per game, which was also her scoring average.
