Show 3 WEST VALLEY VIEW Thursday, Feb. 23, 1984 r2r Bulldogs Looking Ahead To Tourney SALT LAKE. Judge Memorial will have one more opportunity to tune up for the state basketball tournament. After smashing Tooele 6 in the season finale Friday, the Bulldogs turned their attention to the Region Six tournament, which got under way at West high last night (Wednesday) after press time. The Bulldogs met South, with the winner advancing to a title test tomorrow (Friday) against the Murray-Jordawinner. The tournament winner will have the leagues number one seed in the state tourney. Judge, before the tourney, would have been seeded second from the region. They could improve on that, or drop to third or fourth, depending on the outcome of the region play. Coach Jim Yerkovich said he wasnt so much concerned about the seeding as the momentum or lack of same his team could take to state. We dont go into a state tournament hoping to last a certain number of days, we always think we can win, so the seeding really doesnt matter, the veteran coach said. With a young team, he wasnt adverse to another pair of games against good opposition. He didnt get that in the season finale Friday. The hapless Buffs werent ever in the contest, despite the fact that Yerkovich went with his little-use- d seniors. They responded by dominating the game. It was only 12-- 7 after the first period, but Judge led 3 at the half and after three. The games leading scorer was reserve center Jared Peters who slammed home 19 points on 8x8 from the field and 3x6 from the line. Defensive specialist Scott Oppocher also had his best offensive showing, scoring 12 points (5,0x2) and hauling down 11 rebounds. Junior Richard Holmes played only about half the game, scoring 14 (5,4x8) and grabbing 13 caroms. Mark Bailey added nine and Jason Hamula eight. 84-4- 30-1- 53-2- 3 n OFFENSIVE . . .
